Patent number: 8298474Abstract: The invention relates to a device for loading and unloading a heat treatment furnace and to a corresponding method. Heat treatment furnaces are normally loaded and unloaded by means of a so-called elevator. During unloading, a removed workpiece is usually lowered by means of the elevator into an oil bath, in which it is then removed from the elevator. Oil is then transferred into the furnace chamber via the oil-covered elevator. Such an application of oil is avoided by means of a device comprising a frame rack having a first and a second level, which are disposed parallel above each other, and are connected to each other by means of a plurality of frame braces, wherein the first and the second levels have a plurality of openings and the frame braces have guide means.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2008Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: LOI Thermprocess GmbHInventors: Friedhelm Kühn, Horst Barth, Wolfgang Schalberger

Patent number: 5830284Abstract: The present invention involves a method and a device for the heat treatment of workpieces, which are heated with radiant heat generated through the combustion of gaseous fuel. Some of the workpieces are subjected to a carburisation atmosphere formed by a heated mixture of hydrocarbon containing gas and carbon dioxide, where the carbon dioxide has been separated from the exhaust gas of the gaseous fuel combustion. Other workpieces may be subjected to a nitrocarburisation atmosphere formed by a mixture of ammonia and the exhaust gas remaining after the carbon dioxide has been separated. By recycling some of the products of the combustion process, the present invention improves the efficiency of the carburisation process while reducing pollutant emissions.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1996Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: LOI Thermprocess GmbHInventor: Friedhelm Kuhn

Patent number: 5730930Abstract: Fresh gas is blown into the ring-shaped space between the annealing charge and the hood as an upwardly directed high-speed jet (9) at a velocity of approximately 80 m/s. The gas mixture which forms is evacuated through a gas outlet (10) arranged in the pedestal and diametrically opposite to the gas inlet. At a volume flow rate of about 130 m.sup.3 /s, rinsing takes about 6 minutes.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1996Date of Patent: March 24, 1998Assignee: LOI Thermprocess GmbHInventors: Georg Velten, Friedhelm Kuhn, Walter Scheuermann

Patent number: 4612065Abstract: A method is described for the heat treatment, preferably for the intermediate heat treatment, of workpieces, in which the workpieces coming from a heating apparatus are quenched in a fluidized bed under precise temperature and movement control, and then, if necessary, transferred to a structure transformation apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1985Date of Patent: September 16, 1986Assignee: Ruhrgas AktiengesellschaftInventor: Friedhelm Kuhn

Patent number: 4596610Abstract: To harden individual metal parts in a continuous low-energy heat treatment process consisting of clearly separate stages, the part to be heated is placed in a sealed heat treatment box consisting of two layers of porous material separated by a gas-tight barrier. A heat-releasing atmosphere is caused to enter into the material of the two layers during the heating stage, the atmosphere moving from the inner layer of porous material into the box chamber thereby heating the metal part being treated to a diffusion temperature above hardening temperature. An atmosphere releasing components for diffusion is caused to enter the box chamber through the inner layer of porous material during the diffusion stage, with the heat releasing atmosphere continuing to enter the outer layer of porous material.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1984Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Assignee: Ruhrgas AktiengesellschaftInventor: Friedhelm Kuhn

Patent number: 4545208Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method of operating an industrial furnace which is heated by recuperator burners from which the exhaust gases are extracted via steam jet injectors. The exhaust gas-steam mixture from the steam jet injectors passes into a waste heat boiler in order to produce water vapor. This water vapor is delivered to the steam jet injectors in order to drive them. When water vapor is produced in excess, preliminary expansion can be carried out in a turbine in order to generate useful energy. Such conditions are produced in particular when the industrial furnace operates with a steam generating water cooling system for parts of the furnace which become hot. The resulting water vapor is then also led through the waste heat boiler. The useful energy occurring in the turbine can serve to drive the blower for the combustion air for the recuperator burners.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1984Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Assignee: Ruhrgas AktiengesellschaftInventor: Friedhelm Kuhn

Patent number: 4508501Abstract: A process for the surveillance of jacketed radiant heating tubes and recuperative burners using a detector responding to the oxygen partial pressure in the exhaust gas. At low exhaust gas temperatures down to 200.degree. to 300.degree. C., an abrupt change in the detector output signal occurring due to the transition from over-stoichiometric to under-stoichiometric combustion and vice-versa is detected and is reproduced as an actuating and/or alarm signal. The process can also be used for flame surveillance, for the determination of leaks and cracks in jackets, and for surveillance of the tightness of closed magnetic gas valves.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: Ruhrgas AktiengesellschaftInventor: Friedhelm Kuhn
