  • Patent number: 5993933
Abstract: A carpet having a pile layer, a support layer and a rear coating. The carpet has an intermediate layer formed from a mat comprising fibrous parts made predominantly of plastic which are in part thermoplastic and of low-melting point fibers and in part higher-melting point fibers, and melted regions providing coherence of both of the fibers, the melted regions being formed of partly melted regions of the low-melt-ing point thermoplastic fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 1998
Date of Patent: November 30, 1999
Assignee: Vorwerk & Co. Interholding GmbH
Inventors: Friedrich Beyer, Klaus Holzel, Achim Werner
  • Patent number: 5766735
Abstract: A mat made on the basis of a nonwoven comprising fibrous parts predominantly of plastic which are in part thermoplastic and of low-melting point and in part high-melting point, and wherein coherence is obtained by superficial melting of the low-melting point thermoplastic fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 1995
Date of Patent: June 16, 1998
Assignee: Vorwerk & Co. Interholding GmbH

  • Patent number: 5578648
Abstract: A carpet having pile threads forming a pile layer, a support layer which consists of fiber or ribbon material of polyolefins or polyester, and a back coating, the pile threads being attached to the support layer possibly by the back coating, and of a plastic of comparatively high resistance to temperature, in particular polyamide 6 or 6.6, and the back coating is attached as lamination to the top material. In order to obtain a strong attachment of the layers to each other, if possible without limiting the recyclability of the carpet, the back coating be effected by means of a lamination adhesive which contains unmelted fibers, in particular polyamide fibers.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: November 26, 1996
Assignee: Vorwerk & Co. Interholding GmbH

  • Patent number: 5494628
Abstract: A method of producing a nonwoven mat from recycled carpet. The carpet comprises high and low melting thermoplastic fibers. The method comprises shredding the carpet into pieces, scattering the pieces onto a support web to form a layer and heating at least the surface thereof to affect melting of the lower melting thermoplastic fibers.

Date of Patent: February 27, 1996
Assignee: Vorwerk & Co. Interholding GmbH
