  • Patent number: 5474435
Abstract: A device for cooling, granulating and drying molten strands of synthetic thermoplastic material emerging from dies includes a cooling unit for applying a cooling liquid to the strands and a granulator housing with a cutting roll for granulating the strands. The granulator housing is connected to an outlet duct with a sieve to separate the thermoplastic material from the cooling liquid. The sieve is arranged so that the granules separated from the strands by the cutting roll impinge directly on the sieve at basically the same speed as that imparted to the granules by the cutting roll.

  • Patent number: 5066210
Abstract: Apparatus for cooling and granulating extrusions of thermoplastic issuing from extrusion dies is provided with a pair of mirror image symmetric channels formed of guide plates arranged back to back. The upper ends of the channels are exposed to a cooling medium and the lower ends are directed to the entrance of a granulator having draw-in rollers. The guide plates are laterally separable from one another to provide increased tension in the extrusion being fed to the granulator.

  • Patent number: 4838775
Abstract: A device for granulating strands of thermoplastic materials that are discharged molten from several nozzles side by side, with a cutter roll acting on a counterknife and a feed device filled with cooling water located prior to the cutter roll. The feed device consists of the support face of the counterknife approximately radial to the cutter roll, which essentially completely fills up the space between the nozzle surface and the cutter roll and onto which the cooling water is sprayed.

  • Patent number: 4530649
Abstract: Extrusion apparatus for extruding plastic filaments and having a trough for cooling filaments, the trough being pivoted about a horizontal pivot means such that the upper end of the trough can pass from the collecting position through the fall line of the filaments to a position where the filaments fall behind the trough.

  • Patent number: 4528157
Abstract: Feeding of molten plastic strands into a discharge trough. At its upper end the discharge trough includes a slidably movable segment that can be extended behind the fall line of the strands as they emerge from nozzles. In its operating position, the extended segment catches the strands, and can be moved into a fore-running or non-operating position permitting free passage of the strands at the side of the discharge trough. A separational element is associated with the movable segment. As the segment is moved through the fall line of the strands, the separational element acts upon the strands and effects the desired separation. The strands which enter the discharge trough are cooled and ultimately fed to a granulator.

  • Patent number: 4489505
Abstract: A device for the dehydration and drying of solids, especially granulated plastic materials, in the form of a mixture of granulate and water. Water passes through a curved sieve by an air current that flows in the direction in which the water passes through the sieve and also flows along the sieve. The mixture of granulate and water is delivered to the curved sieve through a delivery channel and whirled, by the energy of the air current, over the curved sieve and conveyed to an outlet duct, at the end of the curved sieve. On the curved sieve, an air jet that runs at an angle to the sieve, is directed for the admission of the air current. The mixture of granulate and water that is carried along by the air current, hits the curved sieve at an angle ranging, approximately between 25.degree. to 75.degree. in relation to the curved sieve. In the direction of flow, behind the air jet, is a cover which covers the curved sieve. The cover is adjacent to the rear wall of the air jet, and extends to the outlet passage.

  • Patent number: 4192635
Abstract: The present apparatus cools and granulates thermoplastic strands. For this purpose two cooling chutes are arranged in mirror symmetric, back to back fashion between the strand ejecting nozzles and the input gap between two feeding rollers which supply the strands to a cutting roller. The upper ends of the chutes receive the strands from two sets of nozzles such as extruder nozzles. The nozzles in one set are arranged in a row staggered relative to the nozzles in the other set so that the strands emerging from one set of nozzles fit into the spaces between the strands emerging from the other set of nozzles when the strands enter into the cutter.

  • Patent number: 4025252
Abstract: The present granulating apparatus is especially suitable for chopping strands or thermoplastic material into small pieces as the strands emerge from nozzles. For transporting these strands when they are still hot and partially liquid from the nozzles to a cutting apparatus, there is arranged a chute between the nozzles and a pair of feeding rollers just upstream of the cutting apparatus. The feeding rollers exert a slight pull on the strands. The chute has an entrance end or inlet and an exit end or outlet, as well as a chute path interconnecting said ends, said chute path protruding at least at said ends from a common plane defined by the nozzles and by said feeding rollers, whereby the strands are pressed against the chute at least at the chute ends. A housing surrounds the cutting roller. Cooling water supplied to the housing is divided into a main stream and into a water curtain. The water curtain is so located that the cut off granules must first pass through the curtain before contacting the housing.

  • Patent number: 3976254
Abstract: The present material transport device for a granulating apparatus includes a plurality of transport pressure rollers arranged in a curved row for cooperation with a transport cylinder of the granulating apparatus. An infeed table extends substantially tangentially relative to the transport cylinder which forms with the first pressure rollr of said row an infeed point. A run-off table extends also substantially tangentially relative to said transport cylinder and forms with its downstream end a counter ledge for a rotary knife. The row of pressure rollers extends around the transport cylinder from said infeed point substantially to said counter ledge.

  • Patent number: 3951245
Abstract: This noise reducing device is arranged in the discharge chute of a material granulating apparatus in which a rapidly rotating knife cuts strips or strands of material into granules. In one embodiment of the device a wing wheel or impeller type of wheel is supported off-center for rotation in a portion of substantially cylindrical cross section of the chute. In another embodiment, angularly arranged plates are positioned substantially oppositely each other in the discharge chute to deflect the granular material so as to follow a zig-zag path.
