  • Patent number: 5279117
Abstract: An exhaust pipe of an internal-combustion engine in which self-regulating throttle element is arranged behind the catalyst. In the warm-up phase of the internal-combustion engine, the throttle element closes off the exhaust pipe almost completely. The resulting increased exhaust back pressure causes a higher mass flow rate of the engine, whereby the exhaust gas temperature rises and the catalyst is warmed up rapidly.
