  • Patent number: 4687141
Abstract: The jet exiting from jet nozzles is guided along a guide surface for a jet nozzle with one or more nozzle channels disposed next to each other and in parallel, where the hydraulic diameter of the nozzle channels is from about 1.5 to 4 millimeters. In order to limit sharply and without spray the jet exiting out of the jet nozzle crosswise to its axis on the sides and in order to maintain it of uniform width over a large part of its length, the guide surface is of concave shape, the nozzle channels merge without step into the cylindrical jacket surface, the axes of the nozzle channels and the guide surface include an angle of from 0.5 and 2.5 degrees, and the guide surface is provided with a tear-off provision with a cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4588020
Abstract: A system is provided for limiting the parameters of the motion of a billet in a bow-type continuous casting plant. The stiffness of the billet is determined from values of the motion of the elements of the billet and/or from properties of the advancing billet as picked up by sensing elements. The determined values are compared with preset limiting values for parameters such as the maximum residual withdrawal time, the maximum still permissible stoppage time period and/or the permissible minimum withdrawal speed. If the limiting values are exceeded a signal is provided by a computing provision and fed to an alarm or is used to trigger a shut-off of the continuous casting process.

  • Patent number: 4460031
Abstract: During the continuous casting process, metal melt flows from a reservoir covered with a slag layer into a tundish covered with a slag layer, and from there into a mould. In order to prevent a damage to the strand or the continuous casting plant on account of the slag entry into the mould and the jeopardization of the operating personnel, the height of the metal-melt-bath level on the one hand and the height of the slag-bath level on the other hand are continuously determined. From the relation of these values the slag amount present in the tundish is determined.

  • Patent number: 4012825
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for exchanging rollers in a continuous casting plant for strands, which plant has opposite roller paths for guiding the strand, involves moving the rollers to be exchanged into or out of their bearing places in the roller paths and transporting them away from or to the bearing place, respectively, in the region between the roller paths in the longitudinal direction thereof. Advantageously, a sled with recesses is provided for delivering and removing the rollers.

  • Patent number: 3989093
Abstract: A continuous casting plant for slabs, comprising a water-cooled mould from which the strand is continuously extracted, a supporting and guiding means having rollers for guiding the strand between them, and a cooling device having nozzles for spraying a coolant, in particular water, onto the strand and the rollers, has a part of the cooling device formed by flat jet nozzles arranged parallel to the surface of the strand. The longitudinal axes of the nozzles are parallel to the axes of the rollers, and two flat jet nozzles are arranged between neighboring rollers. Advantageously, the flat jet nozzles are arranged within the area defined by the slab edges of the slab sizes to be cast in the plant, and advantageously they are arranged opposite and toward each other. Furthermore, the flat jet nozzles can have nozzle openings in opposite directions, each opening pointing toward the slab edges.
