  • Patent number: 6576788
Abstract: In a process for preparing mixtures of diphenylmethane diisocyanates and polyphenylpolymethylene polyisocyanates having a reduced content of chlorinated by-products and a reduced iodine color number by two-stage reaction of the corresponding mixtures of diphenylmethanediamines and polyphenylpolymethylenepolyamines with phosgene in the presence of at least one inert organic solvent at elevated temperature, separation of the excess phosgene and solvent after the phosgenation is complete and thermal treatment of the reaction product, the mass ratios of phosgene to hydrogen chloride in the residence time apparatus of the second stage of the phosgenation are at the same time 10-30:1 in the liquid phase and 1-10:1 in the gas phase.

  • Patent number: 5413528
Abstract: Air conditioning (AC) system for motor vehicles comprising two fans connected in a series circuit whereby the first fan provides only a part of the air required for admission into the passenger compartment, and the remaining contribution to the desired quantity of air is provided by the second fan. Under normal operating conditions, where all openings such as windows, doors and sunroof (if any) are closed, both fans are independently regulated by a main controller device in such a manner that the air on the passenger compartment experiences a slight overpressure in order to permit the rapid entry and exit of air flow through the passenger compartment and a uniform air circulation therein. A manometer is included in the AC system to provide air pressure differential data (between the passenger compartment and the outside) to the main controller.

  • Patent number: 5320190
Abstract: A motor vehicle battery cooling arrangement wherein the battery is enclosed by a housing which includes an air inlet port connected to an air guide disposed in front of the vehicle's radiator and cooling fan and an air outlet port connected to the outside. When the vehicle is moving, air impacting at the air guide enters the air inlet port and exits the air outlet port thus cooling the battery. When the vehicle is stationary or when it is very hot and the fan is turned on, the direction of air flow through the battery housing is reversed as the fan induced air flow at the air guide produces a partial vacuum which sucks hot air away from the battery housing through the air inlet port. Cooler fresh air is drawn into the battery housing through the air outlet port. In an alternate embodiment, the air inlet port is connected to the front portion of the engine compartment and the air outlet port is connected to the scoop or shroud housing for the cooling fan located behind the radiator.

  • Patent number: 4936261
Abstract: An apparatus for introducing a fuel additive into the fuel tank of an automotive vehicle comprising a pumping device including a pneumatically actuated displacement pump the pumping element of which is displaceable by pressure against the force of a pretensioned spring by means of a control valve and the control valve is preferably directly actuable by the lid of the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 4768610
Abstract: In a device on a motor vehicle having a brake and brake operating element, a drive assembly and a drive power source with an automatic transmission, a power control element for the drive power source, and a selector mechanism for shifting the automatic transmission from a neutral position and/or a park position into one or more forward or reverse drive positions, means acting on the drive power source and/or the power control element are provided, which means are connected to the brake operating element and the selector mechanism and which disable power output from the drive power source on engagement of a drive position from the N and/or P position unless the brake of the vehicle has been applied.

  • Patent number: 4671523
Abstract: Steering mechanism for a motor vehicle with steerable front wheels and steerable rear wheels, the steering of the rear wheels being effected as a function of the steering angle and the steering torque to the steering device of the front wheels. The steering torque is determined by interrogation of the work medium pressure of the hydraulic servo-steering for the front wheels.

  • Patent number: 4600217
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus for automatically moving the tongue of a seat belt into a position in which it may conveniently be grasped by an operator for insertion into a buckle. The apparatus comprises an inflatable bellows engageable with the tongue and extensible into the position by the application of pressure. The bellows may be retracted by vacuum pressure or by integral resilient means in response to the tongue having been inserted into the buckle.

  • Patent number: 4228866
Abstract: A hydraulic power-steering system has a reversing spool-type valve whose spool may be displaced by the steering wheel and which is connected between a hydraulic pump and a power cylinder in turn connected to the vehicle wheels. This power cylinder has a piston whose effective surface areas exposed in respective chambers are of different size. The spool valve has a pair of input branches connected to the high-pressure side of the pump and a pair of output branches connected to the low-pressure side of the pump, and may assume an intermediate position in which each of the input branches is connected to a respective one of the output branches for hydrodynamic flow through the valve. In addition this valve has a pair of control ports connected to the respective chambers of the power cylinder, and connectable via respective compartments of the valve to respective input and output branches.

  • Patent number: 4211200
Abstract: The air intake of an internal-combustion engine passes through a throttle whose upstream and downstream sides are shunted by an idle-speed circuit. A vacuum-actuated auxiliary device has a vacuum line connected to the downstream side of the throttle. An injector-type jet pump connected in the idle circuit has an outlet connected to the downstream side of the throttle, a high-pressure inlet connected to the upstream side of the throttle, and a low-pressure input connected to the vacuum line. This jet pump serves as a vacuum amplifier during low-speed engine operation to ensure sufficient vacuum to drive the auxiliary load.
