  • Patent number: 5177282
Abstract: Olefins are oligomerized by passing a hydrocarbon feedstock mixture containing olefins of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms over a molecular sieve having a pore diameter of from greater than 4 angstroms to 15 angstroms, and then oligomerizing said olefins by passing the hydrocarbon feedstock over a nickel-containing catalyst at a temperature of from 0.degree.to 200.degree. C. and at a pressure of from 1 to 70 bar absolute.

  • Patent number: 4517395
Abstract: A process for the selective hydrogenation of hydrocarbons having three and more carbon atoms and several double bonds or with triple bonds in monoene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures is described. These compounds are selectively hydrogenated to monoenes in a practically quantitative fashion. Before beginning the hydrogenation, a small amount of carbon monoxide and once to twice the stoichiometric quantity of hydrogen are homogeneously dissolved in the hydrocarbon mixture. The mixture is hydrogenated as a homogeneous liquid phase on a fixed palladium catalyst under a moderately high pressure and at a moderately high temperature. No isomerization can be found in the monoenes and no side reactions or secondary reactions occur.

  • Patent number: 4423271
Abstract: Tertiary-butanol in an aqueous solution containing from 40 to 90 percent by weight of tertiary butanol in homogeneous and liquid phase is dehydrated at a fixed catalytic bed consisting of a strongly acidic ion exchange resin at a temperature from 80.degree. to 150.degree. C. and at a pressure from 5 to 25 bars for the purpose of producing isobutene by dehydrating tertiary butanol.Thereupon the homogeneous, liquid reaction mixture is fractionated in a distillation sector separate from the reaction chamber, the isobutene being separated from the water and from the unreacted tertiary butanol. The unreacted tertiary butanol is returned as an aqueous solution in a circulating flow rate to the reactor under the conditions that the mixture of fresh-fed tertiary butanol and the circulating tertiary-butanol/water mix contains from 40 to 90 percent by weight of tertiary butanol at the reactor inlet.

  • Patent number: 4282389
Abstract: A process for the simultaneous manufacture of pure methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and a substantially isotubene-free mixture of C.sub.4 -hydrocarbons, by reacting the isobutene contained in the mixture of C.sub.4 -hydrocarbons with excess methanol in the liquid phase at elevated temperatures on strongly acid, macroporous, organic ion exchange resins. The process has the following steps:(a) methanol and isobutene are reacted in a molar ratio of 2:1 to 5:1 at temperatures between 30.degree. and 100.degree. C.;(b) the unconverted hydrocarbons are then removed as the top product under a pressure of 2 to 10 bars from a first rectification column;(c) the bottom product from this first column is rectified in a second column under normal pressure or under a slight excess pressure of up to 2 bars at the top of the column, the bottom product of this rectification is recycled to reaction zone (a), if necessary, after separating off a portion of the tertiary butanol formed and the C.sub.

  • Patent number: 4219678
Abstract: Process for the preparation of pure methyl tert.-butyl ether. Isobutene or isobutene-containing hydrocarbon mixtures are reacted with methanol in a molar ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 in the liquid phase at temperatures of between 30.degree. and 100.degree. C. on sulfonated, strongly acidic, macroporous organic ion exchange resins. After separation of the unreacted hydrocarbons, the reaction mixture is distilled under pressure; the methanol-containing distillate formed during the distillation is recycled into the zone of the reaction between methanol and isobutene; and pure methyl tert.-butyl ether is withdrawn from the sump of the distillation column.

  • Patent number: 4126748
Abstract: In an improved process for the production of carboxylic acid esters by catalytic oxidation of alcohols in the liquid phase, primary alcohols of 1-4 carbon atoms are oxidized with molecular oxygen at temperatures of about 100.degree.-250.degree. C. in the presence of catalytic amounts of a compound of Co, Mn, Cr, or Fe, and an acid having a first dissociation constant K.sub.1 greater than 10.sup.-3, dissolved in the reaction mixture.
