    Abstract: An identity card comprising at least one outer transparent thermoplastic covering layer and a thermoplastic core layer; said card carrying at suitable points on at least one layer information which serves to identify the cardholder; said card further carrying security markings, such as guilloche figures, as a protection against forgeries; said core layer comprising incorporated fibrids. In a preferred embodiment, the core layer is a paper felt enriched with at least 80% by weight fibrids of a polyolefin, such as polyethylene, and comprising from 8 to 14% by weight pigment material, such as titanium dioxide. The core layer may also be provided with a reinforcing layer, such as a randomly perforated paper or polyester film, which is dimensionally stable during lamination of the layers under pressure at elevated temperatures of up to 180.degree. C.
