  • Patent number: 7094090
Abstract: A connector (10) comprises a base (20), a cover (30), a protecting mechanism (35) and an actuator (40). The base defines a plurality of through holes (21) therein for receiving a plurality of contacts. The cover movably mounted on the base defines a plurality of passages in alignment with the through holes of the base. The protecting mechanism in the cover defines a hole extending therethrough, two stop members (341,342) are formed in inner surface of the hole. The actuator that can actuate the cover slide on the base, is rotatably assembled with the base and the protecting mechanism. The actuator has a protrusion thereon abuttable against either of the stop members during operation of the actuator, and is departed completely from the cover by the protecting mechanism.

  • Patent number: 7001198
Abstract: A socket connector (10) comprises a base (20) defining a mounting surface (20a) and a substantially rectangular passage body (22). The passage body defines a rectangular array of passages (22b). A plurality of concavities (20d) is defined in the mounting surface. Each concavity is defined between two adjacent passages in a same row of the passages, and surrounded by four passages; two of the passages being in a same row as the concavity, and two of the passages being in a row adjacent said same row. With this configuration, the passage body of the base has a substantially uniform thickness at the mounting surface. Thus, after molding, the passage body is simultaneously cooled down at the mounting surface, to thereby prevent the passage body from warping during formation or heating of the base.

  • Patent number: 6974345
Abstract: An LGA connector (1) comprises a housing (11) for receiving a number of contacts (12), a stiffener (13) partly covering and reinforcing the housing. The stiffener comprises a pair of lateral sides (130), a front end (131) and a rear end (132), and a central cavity (133) disposed therebetween. The sides, the front end and the rear end each define a bottom wall (134) thereof, thereby around the central cavity. A plurality of separately and uniformly protrusions (135) is formed on a bottom surface of the bottom wall. The protrusion and the bottom wall are integrally formed as a single piece by stamping. Thus, the connector is soldered on a circuit board (3) via solder balls (16, 17) on the contacts and the protrusions, thereby preventing the connector from inclining downwardly during in reflow process because of the connecting force between the connector and the board increased.

  • Patent number: 6945794
Abstract: A fastening mechanism for an LGA socket (40) mounted on a PCB (50) for nesting an IC package (30) includes at least one holding unit (60) having a base portion (602) connected with the PCB, a resilient arm (604) extended from the base and formed with a pressing head (606). The head is formed with an compressing face (6060) able to be adjusted to move in a direction vertical to the PCB and rotate round an axis vertical to the PCB to hold the IC package on the LGA socket, thereby establishing electrical engagement between the IC package and the LGA socket. With this arrangement, good position of the IC package on the LGA socket is assured and a relatively higher space over the LGA socket can be saved to arrange other components or operate adjacent components.

  • Patent number: 6929505
Abstract: An electrical connector (1) for connecting a land grid array (LGA) chip with a printed circuit board (PCB) includes a housing (10), and terminals (11) received in passageways (102) of the housing. The housing defines a base (100) and four sidewalls (12), the base and the sidewalls cooperatively defining a space therebetween for receiving the LGA chip. The base has a multiplicity of passageways along a length thereof, for receiving the corresponding terminals therein. Two adjacent sidewalls each define a resilient beam (13) with an incline surface and joining the sidewall at two ends. A space (15) is defined between the beam and the sidewall. When the LGA chip is placed on the base, the two resilient beams can resiliently act on the chip to ensure reliable engagement between the LGA chip and the connector.

  • Publication number: 20040115982
Abstract: An electrical connector comprises a base (10) electrically connectable to a PCB, a cover (11) slidably mounted on the base, and an actuation device (13) for actuating the cover to slide along the base. The base defines a pair of sidewalls (102) parallel to a sliding direction of the cover, and the cover defines a pair of sidepieces (111) corresponding to the sidewalls. The base defines a plurality of first fastening members (1021) on the sidewalls, and the cover defines a plurality of second fastening members (1111) corresponding to the first fastening members. In addition, the cover defines a plurality of protrusions (1112) on the sidepieces for interfering with the sidewalls of the base, which enables compact engagement after the base and the cover being assembled together. In an alternative embodiment, a plurality of protrusions (1121′) is formed on the sidewalls of the base rather than on the sidepieces of the cover.
