  • Patent number: 8615261
Abstract: An apparatus and methods for communicating text messages to the recipients' communication devices utilizes multiple communication modes, including, but not limited to, network-based and non-network based communication modes or methods. Generally, the network-based communication mode utilizes a messaging communication network to communicate text messages over relatively large distances and the non-network-based communication mode utilizes a proximity communication transport mechanism to communicate text messages over relatively small distances. The non-network communication transport mechanism includes, for example, the Bluetooth proximity communication transport mechanism and/or the unlicensed free radio spectrum.

  • Patent number: 8611507
Abstract: Intelligent call transcript systems and methods are disclosed. An intelligent call transcript system can create a transcript of a telephonic communication and supplement the transcript with additional information automatically or upon request. Additional information may be added when key words are detected, such as adding acronym expansion when an acronym is detected or adding identifying information to an important task when mention of the task is detected. Portions of the transcript may also be sent as messages, text-based or audio, upon detection of key words or at the instruction of a user or device.

  • Patent number: 8602947
Abstract: Methods and systems for use in connection with a fitness routine and/or an exercise apparatus. In one such method, fitness information is stored in a fitness analysis system and operative communication is established with an exercise apparatus and/or a wireless communication device. A fitness information request is received at the fitness analysis system, and the system sends a setting associated with the exercise apparatus to facilitate a workout using an exercise apparatus. The system receives exercise information corresponding to the workout, and updates fitness information during the workout. The updated fitness information is analyzed to generate associated with the exercise apparatus to facilitate a subsequent workout.

  • Publication number: 20130259217
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing the status of participants of a tele-networking meeting are disclosed. During a tele-networking meeting, a network device may monitor the talk time of each participant of the meeting. If a participant's talk time exceeds the target talk time, the network device may prompt the chair, and the chair may take action. Action may include managing a participant's status by muting, disconnecting, or spinning the participant off into a subconference. Additionally, during a tele-networking meeting, a chair may also create a subconference on network device. Thus, the chair may be able to spin off participants of a tele-networking meeting into a subconference controlled by a subchair.

  • Publication number: 20130244630
Abstract: An audio interface adapted to reduce a subscriber voice may receive a subscriber voice and a background noise. The subscriber voice may then be compared to the to the background noise. If the received subscriber voice is louder than the received background noise, the audio interface may output a message to the cellular telephone subscriber indicating the subscriber may reduce his speaking volume. Additionally, an audio interface may process a voice waveform that corresponds to the subscriber voice and a background waveform that corresponds to the background noise to generate a substantially opposite voice waveform and a substantially opposite background waveform respectively. The substantially opposite voice waveform and background waveform may be substantially out of phase from the voice waveform and background waveform respectively and output via one or more output ports of the audio interface.

  • Publication number: 20130246548
Abstract: Methods and systems of filtering spam messages for cellular network subscribers are provided that may include receiving a message from a decoy subscriber number. The method and systems may further be adapted to determine whether the message at the decoy subscriber number may be spam. If the message at the decoy number tends to be spam, the message may be output to a filtering service for further analysis. In the final analysis if a message is determined to be spam, then new rules may be created and distributed to front end spam and/or virus engines to restrict such traffic from reaching subscribers.

  • Patent number: 8488749
Abstract: Call replay systems and methods are disclosed. A call replay system can record a telephonic communication and replay the recorded communication upon request. The entire communication may be recorded, or only a portion, such as the most recent few minutes. The entire recording can be transmitted to a requestor, or only a portion. The recording may be altered before it is transmitted to a requestor. Alterations may include actions taken to reduce playback time, such as removing spaces in the recording where no conversation is taking place, or speeding up the recording. Other alterations may include adjusting the sonic characteristics of the recording, translating the recording, or transcribing the recording to create a text version.

  • Patent number: 8478309
Abstract: Communication with a member of a class is established based on the location of a mobile device initiating the communication and the physical address of the member. A class can include members that share common attributes, characteristics, and/or traits. Example classes can include business types (e.g., restaurants), brand names (BEST BUY®, COMPUSA®), services, etc. To establish the communication, the mobile device provides a message to set up a call. Upon receipt of the call setup message, a particular member of the class is selected from members of the class based on the location of the mobile device sending the call setup message and the physical addresses of members of the class. Upon determination of the particular member, communication is established between the mobile device and the particular member.

  • Patent number: 8396074
Abstract: Methods for appending additional device, location, and/or presence information to a mobile-originated short message are taught herein. One such method for appending additional device information includes receiving a MO short message at a message center. The MO short message includes a content request. Message center sends a query to a subscriber directory for device information corresponding to the device of the requesting subscriber. The subscriber directory searches for the device information and generates a response to be sent to the message center, the response including the device information. The subscriber directory sends the response to the message center, which appends the device information to the MO short message. The message center then sends the short message to the destination, for example, a content provider. Methods for appending location and/or presence information are also taught.

  • Patent number: 8374590
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring and updating user availability based upon presence and television viewing behavior are described herein. In one embodiment, a presence system is used to detect a user's presence to update the user's availability status. The availability status is then used to update a contact list, voicemail message, and/or busy message. In further embodiments, user preferences are used in combination with presence data to update the user's availability status. In still further embodiments, a user's television viewing behavior is used in combination with the presence data, user preferences, or both to update the user's availability status. Alternative embodiments provide systems and methods in accordance with the present invention for other interactive devices.

  • Patent number: 8326228
Abstract: A mobile telephone may aid a user in locating a lost wireless headset. The mobile telephone may include a processor and a user interface. The processor may receive data indicative of a quality (e.g., wireless signal strength) related to a proximity between the mobile telephone and the wireless headset. The processor may determine the proximity of the wireless headset to the mobile device. For example, the processor may compare the data to a reference value, such as one based on a transmit class (e.g., BLUETOOTH class) protocol in use between the mobile telephone and the wireless headset. The processor may correlate relative position data to determine a direction to the wireless headset. The processor indicate a distance and/or direction to the user via the user interface and may selectively enable one of the wireless headset and an audio interface of the mobile telephone unit as a default device based on the relative proximity to the wireless headset.

  • Patent number: 8321518
Abstract: A method and apparatus for linking sounds and emoticons to allow a recipient of a message containing an emoticon to hear audio associated with the emoticon. In one aspect of the invention, a first user or sender establishes a link or association between the emoticon being sent and a sound file to be associated with that particular emoticon. The emoticon is then transmitted from the sender to the recipient along with the link or association such that the recipient can hear the audio when the emoticon is displayed.
