  • Patent number: 7002605
Abstract: An image display apparatus fixes the luminance of a blank area and varies only the luminance of an image. The image display apparatus includes an A/D conversion device to convert an input analog image signal into digital image data, a black level setting device for setting the black level of the digital image data by adjusting a lower-limit reference voltage of the A/D conversion device, a blank data generation device to generate blank data to display a blank area around an image display area on the screen, an image data combining device to combine the blank data generated by this blank data generation device and the digital image data output from the A/D conversion device, and a display device to display the output of this image data combining device on the screen.

  • Patent number: 6989809
Abstract: The invention provides a liquid crystal display that does not deteriorates the picture quality and facilitates the contrast adjustment with a simple construction. In order to achieve the object, the liquid crystal display of the invention contains A/D converters that convert the luminance signal Y and the two color-difference signals (Pr, Pb) of an input video signal each into digital signals in correspondence with the respective signals, and a variable power supply that sets the magnitudes of the reference voltage ranges to determine the upper limit voltages and the lower limit voltages of the digital signals to one identical magnitude, which is given to each of these A/D converters.

  • Patent number: 6489941
Abstract: A liquid crystal display apparatus with a driving circuit to make full use of an inherently high response speed of TL-AFLC. In addition to a source driver and a gate driver of conventional structures, the apparatus comprises a resetting source driver and a resetting gate driver for applying, upon writing of video signals to all pixels on a given scanning line in one horizontal period, a reset voltage for resetting beforehand any voltages remaining in all pixels on a plurality of scanning lines following that given scanning line. Application of the reset voltage takes place prior to the one horizontal period in which to write the video signals to all pixels on the scanning line in question and over a plurality of horizontal periods preceding that one horizontal period.
