  • Patent number: 6938396
Abstract: Containers (19) are provided for packaging flexible substrates (13) such as the glass substrates used in the manufacture of liquid crystal displays. The containers include arc-shaped grooves (25) which apply an elastic strain to the substrates. The elastic strain stiffens the substrates and thus reduces the likelihood of damage to the substrates as a result of vibration during transport or sagging when held horizontally. Through the use of such grooves, dense packaging of large, thin substrates is achieved.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 20, 2002
Date of Patent: September 6, 2005
    Assignee: Corning Incorporated
    Inventor: Fumio Okamoto
  • Publication number: 20040195142
Abstract: Articles and methods for packing thin glass sheets are disclosed. The articles and methods include placing the glass sheets in a container at an angle with respect to the container wall. Spacers contact the glass sheets on the periphery of the sheets.

  • Patent number: 5851366
Abstract: A method of improving adherence of a metal film deposited directly on a silicate glass substrate for a display panel. The method comprises chemically treating the surface of the glass to alter its surface characteristics and thereby improve adhesion robustness of the metal film to the glass surface.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5792327
Abstract: A method of improving adherence of a metal film deposited directly on a silicate glass substrate for a display panel. The method comprises chemically treating the surface of the glass to alter its surface characteristics and thereby improve adhesion robustness of the metal film to the glass surface. In a specific embodiment the surface is treated with a mixed solution of hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acid.

  • Patent number: 4452861
Abstract: Article of manufacture comprises a solid core particle individually encapsulated with a film consisting essentially of alkyl 2-cyanoacrylate polymeric material. The film may be produced in situ by agitating a mixture of core particles having adsorbed water on the surfaces thereof in a nonaqueous liquid containing dissolved alkyl 2-cyanoacrylate monomer, whereby the monomer and adsorbed water react and deposit the film on the surfaces of the particles.

  • Patent number: 4348299
Abstract: Method for preparing an inorganic sulfide material including heating at temperatures between about 800.degree. and 1200.degree. C. a mixture comprising at least one member of the group consisting of oxidic materials of calcium, strontium and combinations thereof with a reactive sulfurizing flux which yields sulfides and polysulfides upon heating until the flux melts, reacts with the oxidic material, and the mixture forms into a molten mass. Then, cooling the mass to room temperature whereby relatively water-insoluble particles of the desired sulfide material crystallize in a relatively water-soluble matrix. The sulfide material may be separated by dissolving away the matrix in water and collecting the particles of sulfide material.
