  • Publication number: 20090003324
Abstract: A method and system for call capacity control in a mesh network are disclosed. The mesh network uses on-device SIP proxy and includes multiple client devices, mesh points (“MPs”), and mesh access points (“MAPs”). The method of updating call capacity information (“CCI”) is also disclosed. Adaptive Wireless Routing (“AWR”) protocol is used to establish connectivity among all the mesh access points. Messages are sent to one or more of the plurality of nodes on a periodic basis or as triggered by changes in the call capacity of an MAP, wherein the routing update messages include call capacity information. CAC modules on mesh portals or mesh access points can use the call capacity information to build up a CCI database for all the MAPs in the mesh cloud to assist in the CAC decision-making.

  • Patent number: 7466655
Abstract: An ant-based method for discovering a network path that satisfies a quality of service (QoS) requirement is disclosed. A “forward QoS ant,” which indicates a destination and a QoS requirement, is received at a particular router. The forward QoS ant is updated to indicate the particular router's identity. Given a metric “X,” such as delay, jitter, etc., it is determined whether a least-“X” path from the particular router to the destination satisfies the QoS requirement, and whether the forward QoS ant has visited any other routers in the least-“X” path. If the least-“X” path satisfies the QoS requirement and the forward QoS ant has not visited any other router in the least-“X” path, then the forward QoS ant is sent to the next router in the least-“X” path. Later, a “backward QoS ant,” which indicates the path taken by the forward QoS ant, is received at the particular router.

  • Publication number: 20080267124
Abstract: A method and system for creating and deploying a mesh network are disclosed. In one embodiment, the method comprises providing a mesh router having a plurality of radios. The mesh router is used in a cell of a plurality of cells that covers a geographic region. Channels are assigned to the plurality of radios. The channels are selected from a plurality of channels to allow channel reuse throughout the plurality of cells.

  • Publication number: 20080198824
Abstract: A method and system for QoS provisioning in broadband wireless mesh networks are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a computer-implemented method, comprises providing a dual mode mesh router having a plurality of radios, wherein the mesh router is used in a cell of a plurality of cells that covers a geographic region. The mesh router includes one or more WiMAX backhaul radios, one or more WiFi backhaul radios, one or more WiMAX access radios, one or more WiFi access radios, and three or more intra-mesh radios. Traffic is received at the dual mode mesh router. A minimum quality of service requirement is identified for the traffic. The traffic is routed via the one or more WiMAX backhaul radio when the minimum quality of service meets a predetermined value.

  • Publication number: 20080162723
Abstract: A method of updating probabilistic network routing information is disclosed. A “backward ant” data packet is received. The backward ant data packet contains information about the quality of a network route, at least a portion of which was selected based on a set of router-probability associations, and through which a “forward ant” data packet was transmitted. The set, which is associated with a particular destination router for which the forward ant data packet was destined, is updated based on the information.

  • Publication number: 20060234701
Abstract: A method and system for distributed roaming in a wireless mesh network are disclosed. Cells are able to track and predict a users movement throughout the network. The user's roaming profile is forwarded to predicted future cells before the user actually enters those cells. When the user enters a new cell, roaming is completed without communication to any other cells. Thus, handoff time is reduced and users may more seamlessly move throughout the network coverage area.
