  • Patent number: 9766168
Abstract: A process is disclosed for using multiple acoustic resonators to sample fluids (gas or liquids), capture particulate (or aerosols) entrained in the fluid, and deliver a concentrated sample of particulate. The acoustic concentrator demonstrates many improvements over prior art that includes improved concentration of particulate below 3 micron, adjustability of the level of concentration, ability to function over a wide range of humidity and temperature, and reduced overall power consumption. For example, when installed on the inlet of an aerosol detection system, the acoustic concentrator has been shown to increase sensitivity that may lead to earlier detection of bioaerosol agents.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 22, 2014
Date of Patent: September 19, 2017
    Assignee: Applied Research Associates, Inc.
Inventors: G. Douglas Meegan, Brian Zadler, Jason R. Gallia, Paul Waters

  • Patent number: 7238223
Abstract: An apparatus for removing constituents from a fluid stream is provided. The apparatus includes a duct, a collection device, a sorbent injector, and an acoustic generator. The duct has a fluid passageway to receive a fluid stream having constituents. The collection device filters the fluid stream. The sorbent injector injects a sorbent in the fluid passageway of the duct. The acoustic generator generates an acoustic field in the fluid passageway of the duct to promote sorption of the constituents for collection by the collection device. Additionally, a method is provided for removing constituents from a fluid stream.

Date of Patent: July 3, 2007
Assignee: Board of the Regents, The University of Texas System
