Patent number: 5706215Abstract: A method and system for adjusting the gain of an output from a replacement component in a system with plural components responsive to changing operating conditions so that a power level of an output from the system is approximately the same as a power level of an output from the system before installation of the replacement component. A system memory stores a relationship of gain responsive to changing operating conditions for each of plural components in the system, and each replacement component has a component memory for storing a relationship of gain responsive to changing operating conditions. The relationship stored in the component memory is copied to the system memory when the replacement component is installed in the system.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1995Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Assignee: Harris CorporationInventors: Bradford Gillette Woolley, Charles Leland Garner, Willis McNeill, G. Patent number: 5577807Abstract: An adjustable chair includes a base, a back support, a control on the base, a seat positioned on the control and an actuator housing supported on the base. The control mounts the back for tilting movement between a fully upright position and reclined position. A seat is pivoted to the base at a front end. The seat is also connected to the base by a plurality of locking plates. The chair includes a back stop subassembly, a back or seat tension subassembly, a seat tilt subassembly and a seat depth subassembly. The actuator housing is an elongated, tubular member having concentrically mounted controls or actuators at each end. At one end of the actuator, a rotatable actuator controls back tilt tension and a concentrically mounted, push button actuator controls the back tilt or stop position.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1994Date of Patent: November 26, 1996Assignee: Steelcase Inc.Inventors: David N. Patent number: 5426597Abstract: An adaptive filter system for use in connection with a reference system t receives an input u(s) and generating in response thereto a reference output y(s) defined by a reference transfer function H(s)=c(sI-A).sup.-1 b+d, where "I" is the identity matrix and matrix A, vectors b and c, and scalar d are reference parameters, and "s" is a variable for the input. The adaptive filter system comprises a system model module, a gradient filter module, an adjustable parameter module, and a parameter adjustment module. The system model module receives the input u(s) and generates in response thereto and in response to a plurality of model parameters matrix A', vectors b' and c', and scalar d, an intermediate model output vector x'(s)=u(s)I-A' and a model output y'(s)=cx'(s)b+d. The gradient filter module receives the intermediate model output vector x'(s) and generates a gradient output vector w(s)=.intg.x'(s)+A'w(s)ds.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1994Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: James R. Patent number: 4944361Abstract: An acoustic ear muff includes a pad or cup (2) which is made of rigid material and incorporates an opening for receiving one ear of the wearer, and a resilient sealing annulus (10) intended for abutment with the head of the wearer, and also resilient pressure-exerting means (5) connected to the shell of a protective helmet (1), a head strap or like head gear. The ear muff provides good acoustic damping and a high degree of comfort, owing to the fact that the resilient pressure-exerting means is configured to produce a low pressing force substantially independently of head sizes which vary within given limits. The pressure-exerting means includes, to this end, a spring element in the form of a combined torsion and bending spring.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1988Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: AB Kompositprodukter S.K.-F.M.Inventors: Mats E. Patent number: 4758204Abstract: A transmission system for transmitting essential torque between two locations whose relative positions can change within certain limits, such as between the gearbox and rear axle of an automobile. The system includes a flexible shaft of fibre-reinforced plastics material which connects said locations. The two ends of the shaft are rigidly attached at said locations and the shaft has a sufficiently low Young's modulus in the longitudinal direction and low flexural stiffness to enable positional changes between said locations to be taken up by bending of the shaft. To this end the shaft has the form of a coreless tubular shaft in which the tubular wall comprises a substantially homogenous material with the fibres distributed substantially uniformly over the whole cross-section. The fibres are suitably carbon fibres, forming an angle to the longitudinal direction of the shaft of between .+-.40.degree. and .+-.50.degree., preferably between .+-.43.degree. and .+-.47.degree..Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1987Date of Patent: July 19, 1988Assignee: Fiber Mechanics ABInventor: Mats E. Patent number: 4699154Abstract: A device for tissue sampling by thick needle punctuation including a needle assembly including a hollow first needle and second needle extending through the hollow first needle. The needle assembly is contained in a housing having an opening through which the needles extend. Compressed springs in the housing are caused to expand to urge the needles away from the housing during the sampling of tissue. A rod is provided extending from the housing to simultaneously place the springs in a compressed condition.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1986Date of Patent: October 13, 1987Assignee: Radiplast ABInventor: Per G. Patent number: 4485614Abstract: An annular or closed loop rotatable frame or `flyer` (1), such as is used in a stranding machine of type, in which two or more wires, fibres or strands are stranded to a cable, e.g. intended for telecommunication, the flyer being arranged to rotate around one or more bobbins (10, 11). The frame (1) is journalled in two diametrically opposite points (8, 22) and is prestressed at these two journal points in a direction perpendicular to the centrifugal force produced by the rotation. In this way a bending moment in the opposite direction is produced making it possible to increase the speed of rotation of the flyer.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1982Date of Patent: December 4, 1984Assignee: AB Kompositprodukter S.K.F.M.Inventor: Mats E. Patent number: 4335784Abstract: The present invention relates to a sealing device for minimizing leakage losses in a rotary regenerative type heat exchanger, and more particularly in a heat exchanger comprising a cylindrical matrix of heat absorbent material rotatably mounted in a stationary housing. To prevent a loss of efficiency of the heat exchanger, which occurs when an uncontrolled flow between the inlets and the outlets of the exchanger takes place, an axially extending annular groove (3) having bottom and side walls is formed in each of the two end surfaces (2) of the matrix (1). In each of these annular grooves (3) a stationary sealing sleeve (5) projects into each of said grooves.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1980Date of Patent: June 22, 1982Inventors: Willy B. L. Patent number: 4156816Abstract: The invention relates to an optical fire-detector in which a radiation-emitting means is arranged to emit a beam of radiation and which has modulator means for the modulation of the beam of radiation in a phase-inverted relationship within a first and a second wavelength band, and a radiation-detecting means is arranged to receive the beam of radiation after it has passed through an intermediate air medium and includes first means for an individual measurement of intensity in the two wavelength bands and second means for the detection of such variations in the measured intensities which are representative for a fire.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1977Date of Patent: May 29, 1979Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M EricssonInventor: Erik G. Patent number: 4049501Abstract: An alignment bar is fixed relative to each coke oven chamber and a pivotable member mounted to apparatus movable relative to the battery engages the bar of a coke oven chamber and in so doing engages electrical contactors that regulate the movement of the apparatus. The apparatus is properly spotted within a preselected tolerance when the pivotable member breaks contact.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1975Date of Patent: September 20, 1977Assignee: Koppers Company, Inc.Inventor: Carl G.
