  • Publication number: 20130239806
Abstract: This invention provides methods for reducing a spark rate and/or increasing the voltage in a cold-side electrostatic precipitator through which a particulate-containing gas stream is directed, wherein said electrostatic precipitator has a spark rate and a voltage. The methods comprise injecting an amount of a halogenated carbonaceous substrate formed from a carbonaceous substrate and an elemental halogen and/or a hydrohalic acid into the particulate-containing gas stream upstream of the electrostatic precipitator, such that the spark rate decreases by about 40% or more and/or such that the voltage can be increased by about 20% or more than when said halogenated carbonaceous substrate is not injected.

  • Publication number: 20130105523
Abstract: A fluid container spray device having a trigger lock mechanism with trigger tabs extending outwardly from the trigger and cleats extending inwardly from a moveable shroud. The cleats obstruct the tabs when the shroud is in a trigger lock position. A lever extending from beneath the shroud can be depressed, thereby moving the shroud from the trigger lock position to a trigger release position. The movement of the shroud to the trigger release position moves the connected cleats from their obstructive position to a position out of the trigger tabs' path of movement, thereby permitting use of the trigger to pump fluid from the container. The shroud is biased toward the trigger lock position. Thus, release of the container by the user restores the locked configuration, thereby preventing use by children.

  • Patent number: 8420033
Abstract: Mercury adsorbed from combustion gas by activated carbon can be sequestered in concrete containing air entraining admixtures. The activated carbon may be made by providing a carbon char made from anthracite or low-volatile bituminous coal that was devolatilized and carbonized in an oxygen-depleted environment and activating this char in the presence of steam to provide an activated carbon with an acid blue 80 index of less than about 30 milligrams per gram of carbon. The activated carbon may also be made by providing a carbon char that was devolatilized and carbonized in an oxygen-depleted environment and activating this char in the presence of oxygen to provide an activated carbon. The carbon may be injected into a combustion gas stream containing fly ash and mercury and may then be removed with fly ash from the gas stream. The resulting composition may be used as a partial substitute for cement in air-entrained concretes.

  • Patent number: 8350499
Abstract: A power conditioning circuit in a light bulb efficiently converts an Alternating Current (AC) input voltage into Direct Current (DC) power for operating LEDs in the light bulb. The power conditioning circuit discharges capacitors when a voltage level of the input voltage drops below a given voltage necessary to operate the LEDs. The capacitors are then recharged when the input voltage is high enough to power the LED. The capacitors are configured to operate as voltage dividers while being charged thus reducing a peak voltage level of the output voltage used for powering the LEDs. The reduced output voltage reduces the overall amount of energy used by the light bulb and reduces the amount of heat radiated by the light bulb.

  • Publication number: 20120287575
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling modules in a radio system is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an adaptor module with side walls and integrated heat exchanging elements. The adaptor module adapts the air flow from a chassis in the radio system such that the exiting ducting on the chassis efficiently mate with the air conduits in the modules. The adaptor allows the use of new high power density modules in the existing chassis without changing the module design. The use of adaptor module in chassis provides efficient cooling and use less volume in the chassis.

  • Patent number: 8253344
Abstract: A lighting device comprises a mounting head having multiple facets each configured to retain an associated Light Emitting Diode (LED). The LEDs are mounted to the facets with a thermally conductive metal pad and thermally conductive adhesive. A connector for the lighting device inserts into a light socket and receives power for operating the LEDs. A heat transfer body is coupled between the mounting head and the connector and transfer heat generated by the LEDs downward from the mounting head and then radially outward. The mounting head, adhesive, metal pad, and heat transfer body form a heat transfer structure that more effectively removes heat generated by the LEDs. In one embodiment, a dimmer circuit is also provided that allows the LED lighting device to operate with conventional dimmer switches.
