  • Patent number: 7702319
Abstract: A communication apparatus includes a mechanism for reducing loss of text telephone information during normal traffic channel preempting. The communication apparatus includes a transmitter that may generate a signal including a plurality of text telephone symbols for transmission via a voice channel. The transmitter may receive a notification that indicates information transmitted via the voice channel will be replaced by control information. In response to receiving the notification, the transmitter may further selectively prevent at least a portion of the plurality of text telephone symbols from being provided for transmission.

  • Patent number: 7620122
Abstract: A communication apparatus includes a receiver may receive a signal including one or more frequencies associated with a symbol. The symbol may be any type of symbol such as a text telephone symbol encoded according to a cellular text telephone modem (CTM) protocol, for example. The receiver includes a demodulator unit that may be configured to determine the one or more the frequencies associated with the symbol and to generate a soft decision corresponding to the one or more frequencies. The soft decision may be based upon energies associated with the one or more frequencies.

  • Publication number: 20080076357
Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus includes a mechanism for estimating carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio using a variable bandwidth filter. More particularly, the wireless communication apparatus includes a channel equalization unit coupled to a C/I ratio estimation unit. The channel equalization unit may be configured to calculate instantaneous carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio values of a received signal. In addition, the C/I ratio estimation unit may be configured to calculate a C/I ratio estimate by filtering successive ones of the instantaneous C/I ratio values. The C/I ratio estimation unit may also be configured to determine whether a transmitter of the signal is transmitting voice data in a voice channel of the signal. The C/I ratio estimation unit may be further configured to inhibit the filtering in response to determining the transmitter of the signal is not transmitting the voice data such as during DTX mode, for example.

  • Publication number: 20080022183
Abstract: A technique includes receiving a radio block from a transmission channel. The radio block includes first data and second data. The technique includes evaluating the first data to obtain a first evaluation result, evaluating the second data to obtain a second evaluation result and determining whether the radio block is a partial block based on the first and second evaluation results.

  • Publication number: 20080021702
Abstract: A wireless communication apparatus includes a voice encoder and uplink suppression logic. The voice encoder may be configured to encode a number of digital audio samples into voice payload data using one or more audio compression algorithms. The uplink suppression logic may be configured to provide an indication such as a flag, for example, of whether or not the voice payload data is ready for further processing. In addition, the uplink suppression logic may also be configured to cause one or more bad speech frames to be transmitted in response to the indication that the voice payload-data is not ready for further processing. For example, a bad speech frame may include a voice data block including the voice payload data and EDC that does not match the voice payload data.

  • Publication number: 20080004871
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for receiving a frame type indicator (FTI) associated with an encoded data portion in an encoder, receiving state information regarding a current logical channel according to a controller, and determining whether to invalidate the encoded data portion if the FTI and the state information do not indicate a channel type match. In this embodiment, only if certain types of mismatches exist between FTI and state information will the data portion be invalidated.

  • Patent number: 7277690
Abstract: A communication apparatus includes a mechanism for preventing demodulation of text telephone information during reception of a poor quality signal. In one embodiment, the communication apparatus includes a receiver including a demodulator unit configured to receive a signal including a plurality of text telephone symbols. The demodulator unit may be configured to generate a soft decision based upon a frequency and an energy value of each received text telephone symbol. The demodulator unit may be configured to receive a notification that indicates the signal is unusable. In response to receiving the notification, the demodulator unit may be further configured to generate predetermined information that is independent of the plurality of text telephone symbols.

  • Publication number: 20070071139
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for receiving channel data via a transmission channel, generating hard and soft decisions for each bit of the channel data in an equalizer, and storing the hard decisions in a first buffer and storing the soft decisions in a second buffer. Each of the soft decisions may be quantized before their storage, while the hard decisions may be generated based on a corresponding unquantized soft decision. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
