  • Publication number: 20100199875
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to obtain great final ballistic effectiveness of fragmentation bullets and warheads regardless of the impact speed while using as little explosive material as possible. Said aim is achieved by combining explosive shell (3) with a damming inner member (4) in connection with an accelerated outer jacket (2). This arrangement results in the best possible conversion of the explosive energy while offering great creative flexibility regarding the design. A wide range of additional possible effects is created by blast-compacting the inner damming member (4). Furthermore, the shape of the inner damming member allows the fragments to obtain a directionally controlled effect. Depending on the caliber and technical design, the amount of explosive material used can be reduced by 50 to 80 percent compared to conventional explosive bullets at comparable fragment speeds or sub-bullet speeds. The explosive material economized is available as additional effective mass.

  • Publication number: 20060162539
Abstract: The invention describes a rigid or flexible pyrotechnic protection surface which is free or integrated into a housing, for medium-heavily and lightly armored vehicles, protection arrangements and surfaces to be protected, corresponding to FIG. 1, with a single-layer or multi-layer carrier (4) of any configuration which is inclined in the region of action of the threat and pyrotechnic layers (2, 3) mounted on the carrier on both sides. Shock waves and reaction gases are formed by the firing of both layers and are accelerated both in opposite relationship to and also in the direction of the penetrating hollow charge threat (1). In that way both the front powerful blast elements and also a great blast length are disrupted and thus lose their penetration capability or are at least greatly diminished in respect of their residual power. The pyrotechnic protection surface is disposed in a condition of dynamic equilibrium over the entire period of action.

  • Patent number: 6244156
Abstract: A blast shell is launched as a defense against an attacking tail fin-stabilized projectile, such as in particular a KE penetrator, from an object which is to be protected. Gas fumes and a reaction pressure blast wave from a fired blast warhead of the shell act principally on the tail region of the attacking projectile and thereby deflect the latter from a trajectory in the attack direction so that the object under attack is either missed or at least is not hit in a head-on direction, thereby reducing the effectiveness of the attacking projectile.

  • Patent number: 5458704
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of very hard armour plates from steel slabs, wherein the slabs are hot rolled to a final thickness above 50 mm and then hardened and possibly tempered. The characterizing feature of the invention is that a continuously cast slab is produced from a steel having0.25 to 0.32% C0.05 to 0 75% Si0.10 to 1.50% Mn0.90 to 2.00% Cr0.10 to 0.70% Mo1 20 to 4 50% Ni0.01 to 0.08% Almax 0.015% Pmax 0.005% Smax 0.012% Nresidue Fe, including usual impurities, the slab then being heated to a temperature of 1150.degree. C. or higher and heated through, whereafter following cooling in air and by the spraying of its two wide sides with pressurized water, the slab is hot rolled with a surface temperature in the range of 1050.degree. to 900.degree. C. in shaping passes having an individual deformation of .epsilon..sub.h >0.1 and with a shape factor SF>0.40 to the final thickness.
