  • Patent number: 7307814
Abstract: A method and system for providing a pedestal defined zero throat write head is disclosed. The method and system include providing a first pole having a pedestal, providing a gap and providing a second pole. The first pole has a pedestal. The gap separates the pedestal of the first pole from a portion of the second pole. The pedestal has a front, a back, a top and a bottom. The back of the pedestal has a recess therein, which runs from the top of the pedestal to the bottom of the pedestal.

  • Patent number: 7133253
Abstract: A thin film electromagnetic head has an inductive transducer with a ferromagnetic pole layer terminating adjacent a media-facing surface at a pole tip surface. The pole layer has side surfaces each having an end region that meets the pole tip surface, the end regions increasingly separated with increasing distance from the pole tip surface. Having a pole layer that is tapered to the point at which it meets the pole tip surface channels flux more efficiently for writing on-track as opposed to off-track. Such a tapered pole tip can be formed for a pair of pole layers separated by a submicron nonferromagnetic gap, or for a single perpendicular writing pole layer.

  • Patent number: 5107385
Abstract: A read head assembly senses information recorded on magnetic media from tracks having different widths. The read head comprises a magnetoresistive strip which is positioned normal to the direction of movement of the magnetic media. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetoresistive strip includes two pairs of signal conducting leads, one pair of which has a lead spacing approximately equal to a first relatively narrow track width, and the other pair having a spacing approximately equal to a second, relatively wide track width.

  • Patent number: 4371905
Abstract: A differential Hall effect magnetic read head exhibiting improved resolution. The head includes dual Hall elements in which the elements are oriented so that their major surface is perpendicular to the surface of the recording medium and biased so that they respond to the component of magnetic flux which is parallel to the surface of the recording medium. Operation in this manner enables information recorded at extremely high densities to be easily read. In an alternative embodiment, a single Hall element is utilized and direct and delayed outputs are differentially compared in order to detect flux transitions.
