  • Publication number: 20160366596
Abstract: Systems and methods for extending coverage of a communication network. In one embodiment, a system includes a first base station configured to communicate with a first mobile communication device and to generate a core interface message. The system also includes a second mobile communication device and an application level server. The second mobile communication device is connected to the first base station and is configured to obtain the core interface message from the first base station, generate a message including the core interface message in an application layer of the message, address the message to the application level server, and transmit the message to the application level server. The application level server is configured to receive the message, extract the core interface message from the message, and transfer the core interface message to a network core to emulate an interface between the first base station and the network core.

  • Patent number: 9451419
Abstract: A method and a system for operating a subscriber unit to seamlessly switch between a trunked mode operation (TMO) and a direct mode operation (DMO) in a communication system. The communication system includes one or more subscriber units communicating in trunked mode operation on a first communication channel via a base station and the subscriber units communicating in direct mode operation on a second communication channel via a direct mode gateway station. When the subscriber units communicate in the TMO and when the signal quality on the first communication channel is below the predetermined threshold, the subscriber units automatically switch to the direct mode operation. When the subscriber units communicate in DMO and when the signal quality on the second communication channel is below the predetermined threshold, the subscriber units automatically switch to the trunked mode operation.

  • Patent number: 9386578
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for node operation according to network-wide resource-allocation schedules. One embodiment takes the form of a method carried out by a given node within an ad-hoc wireless network, which includes a controller node for a current time period. The method includes obtaining one or more air-interface resource requests for the current time period, where each obtained resource request indicates a requesting node and a requested resource. The method further includes using a network-standard algorithm for deriving a network-wide resource-allocation schedule for the current time period based at least in part on the obtained resource requests. The method further includes verifying the derived resource-allocation schedule based at least in part on a verification value derived by the controller node from the network-wide resource-allocation schedule using a network-standard verification function.

  • Publication number: 20160094607
Abstract: A media server and method of operation of a media server in a wireless communication system are provided. The media server receives media streams from mobile communication devices in the wireless communication system, and routes the media streams sequentially to a packet header compression encoder. A processor of the media server is configured to receive a first media stream from a first mobile communication device, receive a request from a second mobile communication device to transmit a second media stream to the media server, and transmit data derived from an RTP header of the first media stream to the second mobile communication device. The second mobile communication device is enabled to commence transmission of the second transmitted media stream using the data derived from the RTP header. The wireless communication system may be a PTT wireless communication system or a group video wireless communication system.

  • Patent number: 9161272
Abstract: A lossless call may be established over a wireless radio network by determining, at a target subscriber device during a received call, that one or more identified media items in a stream of media items of the call being received over a first radio channel was not successfully received, and responsively: continuing to receive first subsequent media items of the call and buffering, instead of rendering at the target subscriber device, the first subsequent media items, requesting the identified media items, receiving by the target subscriber device via an established second radio channel, different from the first radio channel, the identified media items, re-ordering the identified media items chronologically with respect to the buffered first subsequent media items to create the re-ordered subsequent media stream, and rendering, by the target subscriber device, the re-ordered subsequent media stream at a first increased relative rate.

  • Patent number: 8914834
Abstract: A source rate associated with a video bit stream (112) and a channel (140) rate associated with an LTE environment can be identified. The video bit stream (112) can be a Scalable Video Codec (SVC) of an H.264/MPEG4 Advanced Video Coding. The channel (140) rate can be associated with one or more segment bandwidth (142) rates. An enhancement path from an enhancement profile (332) associated with the SVC can be determined. The enhancement profile (332) can include one or more cumulative source rates and an associated enhancement options. The enhancement options can be a frame quantity, frame size, and a frame quality (122, 124, 126). The enhancement path can be a subset of nodes of the enhancement graph (400). The channel (140) rate can be matched to a cumulative source rate to a node within the enhancement path. One or more Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) units (144) with the appropriate enhancement values can be conveyed.

  • Publication number: 20130209057
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for capturing an image so that color degradations can be minimized. During operation, a video-recording system will fetch and record the scene without the illumination of the light bars. More particularly, as a video recorder/transmitter is set to record, logic circuitry triggers the light bars to turn off for a short period of time (e.g., a few seconds), and then turned back on. During that time period, the field-of-vision (unencumbered by the stroboscopic illumination and color) is sampled by the camera as a reference. Color correction/compensation is performed using the unencumbered field-of-vision as a reference.

  • Patent number: 8417283
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for increasing calling capacity in a carrier by dividing timeslots on the carrier into sub-slots and for conveying usage and access rights information for each sub-slot on a carrier. A base station configures a control signal that is associated with each of a plurality of timeslots on a carrier. Each of the plurality of timeslots is divided into sub-slots and specific fields in the control signal are associated with each sub-slot. The base station provides, to mobile stations, at least one of a usage marker or access rights information through the control signal. The mobile stations use the usage marker or access rights information to determine whether transmission of voice traffic and control signaling is permitted on each sub-slot.

  • Patent number: 8306573
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for increasing calling capacity in a carrier using enhanced Terrestrial Trunk Radio (TETRA) protocols. The method includes transmitting, by a base station to at least one mobile station, a permission signal for an assigned timeslot on a carrier, wherein each timeslot is divided into at least two sub-slots. The method also includes configuring a control signal that is associated with each of the plurality of timeslots. Specific fields in the control signal are associated with each sub-slot on each of the plurality of timeslots. The method further includes providing usage markers through the control signal. Usage markers values are divided into ranges, each range used to identify a timeslot or a sub-slot assignment on the carrier. The base station sends a time advance value to the mobile station to indicate when transmission from the mobile station is to begin.
