  • Patent number: 9603177
Abstract: A method and apparatus related to a first radio network node serving a first UE in a first mobile radio network for enabling a D2D communication with a second UE served by a second radio network node in a second radio network. The first radio network node establishes a connection with the second radio network node. The first UE (230) requests to the first radio network node to enable a communication with the second user equipment (290). The first radio network sends a first message comprising information related to the first UE (230) to the second radio network node (280) for configuration of the second UE (290). The first radio network node receives a second message for configuration of the first UE (230) and sends to the first UE (230) a third message related to the second UE.

  • Publication number: 20170027010
Abstract: A method and a base station are provided. The base station obtains a first path gain of a cellular radio link to a first wireless device, a second path gain of a cellular radio link to a second wireless device and a third path gain of a Device-to-Device radio link between the first wireless device and the second wireless device. When the first, second and third path gains satisfy a threshold condition, the base station instructs the second wireless device to apply network coding on first data transmitted from the first wireless device and to transmit a network coded form of the first data. The base station receives a radio signal with the first data transmitted from the first wireless device and uses the network coded form of the first data transmitted by the second wireless device for decoding the first data.

  • Publication number: 20160381550
Abstract: A node in a cellular network node supports ad hoc networking between UEs. The network node accesses a user equipment capability database and receives update messages from user equipments (UEs) comprising information regarding the capabilities of the UEs, such as supported frequency bands, radio access technologies, and antenna modes. The network node updates the user equipment capability database with the information from the received messages, and it uses the user equipment capability database and a matching algorithm to identify given UEs that have matching capabilities and are able to communicate wirelessly. The network node then transmits an ad hoc “paging” message identifying the UEs. The paging message is received by the identified UEs and they may then establish an ad hoc network.

  • Patent number: 9516652
Abstract: A network node assigns resources for use in wireless communication based on priority. The network node receives, from a wireless communication device, a service request message that requests connection of a communication session. The network node determines a priority level for the requested communication session. The priority level comprises a cellular layer admission priority of whether the network node can preempt cellular resources of an existing communication session in order to admit the requested communication session on the cellular layer, and a device-to-device (D2D) layer admission priority of whether the network node can preempt D2D resources of an existing communication session in order to admit the requested communication session on the D2D layer. The network node assigns resources based at least in part on the priority level. The resources are used for D2D communication or cellular communication.

  • Publication number: 20160345371
Abstract: A Device-to-Device, D2D, communication between a first wireless device (D1) served by a first base station (BS1) and a second wireless device (D2) served by a second base station (BS2), is supported by employing an assisting node (406) which cooperates with the first base station by creating a network code form (f(x1,x2)) of first data (x1) transmitted by the first wireless device and second data (x2) transmitted by the second wireless device. The assisting node then transmits the network coded form of the first and second data to the first base station, such that the first base station is able to determine the second data (x2) based on the received first data (x1) and the network coded form (f(x1,x2)), and to transmit the second data to the first wireless device. Thereby, the first wireless device is able to determine the second data more accurately by combining the second data transmitted by the second wireless device in the D2D communication and the second data x2 transmitted by the first base station.

  • Publication number: 20160323892
Abstract: Method and radio access point for handling a two-way communication between a first wireless device and a second wireless device which are both served by the radio access point. A set of candidate transmission modes are available for use in the two-way communication. The radio access point obtains a mode-specific quality metric related to a predicted Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio, SINR, for each one of the candidate transmission modes, and selects one of the candidate transmission modes based on the obtained mode-specific quality metrics. The radio access point is thus able to select the transmission mode that has the best mode-specific quality metric in the set. The selected transmission mode is then applied for the two-way communication. Thereby, the most favourable transmission mode may be selected and used to provide satisfactory or even optimal performance.

  • Patent number: 9392420
Abstract: A system and method for enhanced support for handling of Closed Subscriber Groups (CSGs) and sharing of Radio Access Network (RAN) for home base stations and other small cells. An enhanced System Information (SI) structure indicates multiple CSG IDs and CSG Indications, thereby making it possible to support different CSG IDs and CSG Indications for every Public Land Mobile Network Identity (PLMN-ID) and also to support a PLMN-ID with multiple associated CSG IDs and CSG Indications. The enhanced SI makes it possible to have different CSG IDs for different operators, to have multiple CSG IDs for one operator (i.e., a single PLMN), and to selectively use the CSG concept for some PLMNs (as given by their respective CSG Indications), but not for all. A network of base stations (e.g., a RAN) thus can be effectively shared by multiple operators, leading to better cellular coverage, peak rates, and capacity.
