  • Publication number: 20180159771
Abstract: Embodiments of hybrid network processing load distribution in a computing device are disclosed therein. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, at a main processor, an indication from the network interface controller to perform network processing operations for first and second packets in a queue of a virtual port of the network interface controller, and in response to receiving the request, assigning first and second cores for performing the network processing operations for the first and second packets, respectively. The method also includes performing the network processing operations at the first and second cores to effect processing and transmission of the first and second packets to first and second applications, respectively, both the first and second applications executing in a virtual machine hosted on the computing device.

  • Publication number: 20180095455
Abstract: A method for monitoring a maintenance condition of a component includes coupling a sensing device to the component. The sensing device includes at least one non-intrusive data sensor and an on-board processing complex including a wireless communication device and being coupled to the at least one non-intrusive data sensor. Data from the at least one non-intrusive data sensor is processed in the on-board processing complex using a maintenance model to determine a maintenance condition metric for the component. The maintenance condition metric is transmitted to a remote system using the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 9506994
Abstract: A sensor apparatus comprises a first magnetic transducer which in use is positioned on a first side of a barrier and a second magnetic transducer which in use is positioned on a second side of the barrier opposite the first side. The second transducer comprises a magnetic or electrical property which is dependent upon a sensible condition on the second side of the barrier, such as the pressure or temperature on the second side of the barrier. In operation, the first transducer generates a first magnetic field which induces the second transducer to generate a second magnetic field that is dependent upon the magnetic or electrical property of the second transducer. The first transducer detects the second magnetic field and generates a signal which is representative of the sensible condition on the second side of the barrier.

  • Publication number: 20160341030
Abstract: A method for monitoring a condition in at least one of a plurality of casing annuli in a subsea hydrocarbon production system having a wellhead housing mounted at the upper end of a well bore and a number of concentric well casings extending from the wellhead housing through the well bore, including an innermost casing through which a hydrocarbon fluid is produced. The plurality of casing annuli are defined between successive ones of the wellhead housing and the well casings. The method involves sensing at least a first condition at a first location in a first casing annulus, generating a first data signal at the first location which is indicative of the first condition, transmitting the first data signal from the first location to a second location either outside the wellhead housing or inside the innermost casing, receiving the first data signal at the second location; and transmitting the first data signal from the second location to a remote location at which the first condition may be monitored.

  • Patent number: 9381355
Abstract: A prosthetic retina for implantation in an eye having a defective retina is formed from an array of nanowires having a predetermined spatial distribution, density, size and shape implanted in close proximity to the retina. An electrical conductor is formed at a first end of all nanowires in the array of nanowires and placed in contact with a bias source which biases the array. A plurality of electrodes is located on a second end of each of one nanowire or a bundle of nanowires in the array. Each nanowire produces a photocurrent at a corresponding electrode in response to detection of light impinging on the array of nanowires and the photocurrent stimulates one or more neurons adapted for visual perception. In the preferred embodiment, the predetermined spatial distribution mimics a distribution of rods and cones in a normal eye.

  • Patent number: 6974115
Abstract: An electro-hydrostatic actuator having a sealed housing filled with a dielectric fluid. A motor driven pump and electronics for controlling the pump are all immersed in the fluid. The pump is arranged to deliver fluid from the housing to a hydraulic cylinder to control the positioning of the piston rod. A solenoid operated valve is integrated as a bypass or tip valve for quick fail safe position. The actuator is ideally suited to control various types of plunger valves. In one embodiment of the invention, the hydraulic cylinder is located outside of the housing and in another embodiment the cylinder is located inside of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6892534
Abstract: An electro-hydrostatic actuator unit that contains a sealed pressurized housing filled with a dielectric fluid. A bi-directional motor is immersed in the fluid and drives a gear pump for exchanging fluid via a control circuit between the chambers of a bi-directional hydraulic actuator in response to an input from a controller. The chambers are separated by a piston and a piston rod is connected to an external load such as a plunger type valve. A failsafe circuit is also provided which is arranged to override the control circuit in the event a failsafe condition is detected by the unit controller. The failsafe circuit contains a motor driven pump that provides high pressure fluid from the pressurized reservoir to an accumulator. Valves are arranged to shut down the control circuit and deliver fluid from the accumulator to one of the cylinder chambers to rapidly move the actuator to a desired failsafe position.
