  • Publication number: 20100045601
Abstract: A system and method for interacting with at least one display screen of a multi-component display is disclosed. A system includes a first display screen operable to display a first image, wherein the first display screen includes a first plurality of pixels. A second display screen is operable to display a second image, wherein the second display screen includes a second plurality of pixels, wherein the second display screen overlaps the first display screen, wherein the second display screen is further operable to display the second image simultaneously with the display of the first image, and wherein a portion of the first image is viewable through the second display screen. A user interface is operable to enable interaction with at least one display screen selected from a group consisting of the first display screen and the second display screen.

  • Patent number: 7505049
Abstract: A method of displaying information on an instrument for viewing by a user includes the steps of a) displaying information on a first focal plane, and b) moving the information displayed on the first focal plane to a different focal plane when an alarm or critical situation arises, and c) then moving the information back to the first focal plane, and d) repeating steps b) and c) in order that the viewer of the instrument becomes aware of the displayed information.

  • Publication number: 20070252804
Abstract: A display control system for a multi-layer display system including at least one multi-layer display unit (6). A multi-layer display unit includes multiple stacked or overlapped display layers (1a, 1b, 1c, 14, 15) each adapted to render display elements (2, 16B, 17B, 18B) thereon for viewing through the uppermost display layer. The level of difficulty for a user to view an overlapped image differs depending on the colour, brightness or type of images (for example text-on-text) being displayed and also the layer in which the image is being displayed and whether the image is currently active. At least any overlapping portion of display elements from different display layers are adjusted (automatically or by a user) in order to improve the viewing experience for a viewer. Types of adjustment possible include moving the images within their display layer or to an alternative display layer or altering their visual properties (such as colour, brightness, contrast etc).

  • Publication number: 20060290594
Abstract: A display device comprising at least two display layers at least in part overlapping in which at least one of said display layers has a dissimilar configuration to the other display layer(s) such that moiré interference is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20060191177
Abstract: A multi view display (5) provides different viewing angles for different images (3, 4). The display (5) may comprise a single screen on which two or more images (3, 4) are interleaved, or a number of overlapping screens on which respective images (3, 4) are displayed. Viewing manipulation means such as privacy films or lenticular arrays control the viewing angles for each image (3, 4). The multiview display (5) may be used in a vehicle, to simultaneously display a movie (3) to a passenger (1), and a navigation image (3) to a driver (2).

  • Publication number: 20060103951
Abstract: A method of controlling the point spread function of an image projected with said image being diffused by a filter; said point spread function is a result of the application of spatial filter(s) on said image; with said control of the point spread function effected by varying the distance between such image and said spatial filter(s) and varying the bidirectional scattering transmission function of the spatial filter(s). Said spatial filter may be a holographic diffuser, which by method of manufacture has a ell defined bi-directional scattering transmission spread function. Control of said spread function is particularly useful to maintain image quality while abating moiré interference in situations where two periodic patterns are layered causing moiré interference.

  • Publication number: 20050206582
Abstract: A method of displaying an image with variable perceived depth using a display (1) including one or more at least partially transparent, substantially parallel imaging screens (3) located in front of, and overlapping with, a rear imaging screen (4), characterised in that a physical image is formed on two or more imaging screens (3,4), each image being of substantially identical configuration and being sized and aligned such that like portions of each image are coterminous to a viewer observing the display, wherein at least two of said coterminous images are displayed with different luminance.

  • Publication number: 20050062410
Abstract: A method of adapting a visual unit having a first screen (10) in a first focal plant by the addition of one or more at least partially transparent display screens (20) at least partially overlapping said first screen (10) and located in focal planes distinct from said first focal plane, characterised in that an at least partially transparent emissive layer (21) is provided between said first screen (10) and at least one said additional display screen (20).
