  • Patent number: 9523025
Abstract: A raw elastomeric composition in free-flowing pellet form is described, which comprises a raw elastomer with molecular weight from 50,000 to 400,000 Da, and an anti-block agent comprising inorganic fillers, capable of forming emulsions in water. Likewise, a process for obtaining said raw elastomeric compositions in free-flowing pellet form, comprising the steps of: a) polymerizing at least one monomer through solution polymerization in order to obtain elastomer crumb; b) forming an aqueous suspension of the elastomer crumbs; c) dewatering the aqueous suspension; d) adding an anti-block agent comprising inorganic fillers capable of forming emulsions in water; e) drying the dewatered suspension; and f) pelletizing the elastomer to form a raw elastomeric composition in free-flowing pellets form. The raw elastomeric composition in free-flowing pellets form thus obtained can be used as an adhesive composition, in asphalt modification and in asphalt emulsions.

  • Patent number: 9254780
Abstract: Aspects for rigidly positioning a load-bearing bar are disclosed. In one aspect, a method includes positioning a bar between two surfaces so that one end is oriented towards one surface, and the other end is oriented towards another surface. The method also comprises rotating a crank to facilitate having each end make contact with its corresponding surface. Here, rotating the crank extends an extension shaft away from a control shaft, whereas rotating in an opposite direction inserts the extension shaft into the control shaft. An apparatus is also disclosed, which includes a control shaft comprising a crank that rotates a gear assembly, and an extension shaft coupled to the control shaft. Here, the extension shaft extends away from the control shaft when the gear assembly rotates in a first direction, and retracts when the gear assembly rotates in an opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 8981008
Abstract: A tapered triblock copolymer having controlled vinyl distribution, enlarged middle block with intermediate composition and microstructure, increased compatibility between its adjacent blocks, good processing characteristics and a peak average molecular weight between 25,000 and 300,000 is made by anionically polymerizing conjugated diene and monovinyl aromatic monomers, polar modifier and initiator to make a first block rich in conjugated diene, forming a second block that is a copolymer of the conjugated diene and the monovinyl aromatic monomer and which is less rich in the conjugated diene than the first block, and forming a third block that is a homopolymer of the monovinyl aromatic monomer. The first, second and third blocks comprise 30 to 60, 20 to 50 wt % and 10 to 40 wt % of the tapered triblock copolymer, respectively. The tapered triblock copolymers may be used as asphalt modifiers, adhesives, sealants, compatibilizers, reinforcing agents and impact modifiers.

  • Patent number: 8636164
Abstract: A rupture disc for use in a pressure relief system includes a dome having a concave and a convex side and a circumferential flange associated therewith. At least one control score is formed or otherwise produced in the dome at a radial position between an apex of the dome and an outer circumference of the dome. At least one of a depth, a width, a length and the radial portion of the at least one control score is selectively controlled so that the depth, width, length, and/or radial position of the at least one control score controls the pressure at which the dome will start to collapse.

  • Publication number: 20100140238
Abstract: A method of forming a score line in a rupture disc using a laser is provided, wherein the method includes selecting a wavelength for the laser that maximizes absorption of the laser radiation by the disc material, selecting a pulse duration for the laser that maximizes a peak power of the laser, selecting a pulse repetition rate for the laser that reduces a heat affected zone of the rupture disc during ablation, and selecting the speed of relative motion between the laser and the rupture disc. The score line is ablated in the rupture disc using the laser to remove material from the rupture disc as vapor without melting or oxidizing disc material adjacent the material being removed.

  • Patent number: 7431565
Abstract: A method of repairing a generator blower hub assembly (12) and rotor blade (10) removed from the generator blower hub assembly (12) where the rotor blade (10) has fatigued material in threads of a threaded blade root (14). The method may include removing (32) at least a portion of the fatigued material to form the blade root (14) to a first or new diameter. Threads may be formed (36) on the diameter of the blade root (14) using a roll forming process. A collar (20) may be secured within a threaded hole (16) formed in the generator blower hub assembly (12) where the collar (20) includes internal threads (35) for receiving the threads formed on the diameter of the blade root (14), which may be threaded into the collar (20). Collar (20) may be fabricated of steel alloy and include relief groove (40) for improving the fatigue resistance of the threaded blade root (14) when reassembled into the generator blower hub assembly (12).
