Abstract: The invention refers to a geriatric feeding cup for feeding liquid to an elderly person, including a cup adapted to receive the liquid, a lid and a spout made of a soft pliable material fitted to the cup. In use, the geriatric feeding cup enables the search reflex, the suck reflex and the swallow reflex to be stimulated in the elderly person so that they can be fed the liquid in a more effective and safe manner. The invention also relates to a method of use of the geriatric feeding cup whereby the search reflex, the suck reflex and the swallow reflex are stimulated to feed the person.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for making a simple sugar solution from a liquid solution including at least one compound sugar by performing hydrolysis in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst. The method comprises contacting the hydrolysis reaction medium with at least one microporous solid adsorbent compound selected for compatibility with the hydrolysis and . catalysis conditions and for selectively adsorbing by-products other than simple sugars under the hydrolysis reaction conditions. A pure, colourless, food-grade simple sugar solution is achieved.

Abstract: This invention relates to novel furan polyols, which are characterized in that they are the product of reaction of a strain selected from the group or consisting of a polyalcohol, a monoamine or polyamine, said polyalcohol or said amine possibly containing a furan cycle and mixtures thereof with a chain extension agent constituted by an organic epoxide, with the proviso that this organic epoxide is a furannic oxiran when this polyalcohol does not contain a furan cycle with the exclusion of 2,5(bis-hydroxy)furan as sole strain, when the chain extension agent does not contain any furan cycle. These furan polyols are used for the preparation of polyurethane foams having improved properties.
