    Abstract: Transmission of a digital television signal conveys data parameters along with the encoder data that are utilized by the receiver in equalization and in decoding the encoded data. Leveraging the existing digital television standard data formatting, parameters are split between the two fields of a frame of the interlaced signal. Spread spectrum techniques are employed to robustly convey the parameters in encoded form to the receiver.
