  • Publication number: 20230379814
Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile system receives a group identifier for wireless access points associated with a pathway via which the mobile system is to travel. The mobile system receives, during travel of the mobile system along the pathway, beacons from a plurality of wireless access points. Each of the plurality of wireless access points indicates its group identifier in its beacon. The mobile system selects, based on the beacons, a particular access point from among the plurality of wireless access points for roaming, in part by giving preference to any access points in the plurality of wireless access points having a group identifier that matches the group identifier associated with the pathway. The mobile system wirelessly roams to the particular access point.

  • Patent number: 11483752
Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile radio station in communication with a current base station of a plurality of base stations receives hello packets from one or more of the base stations. The hello packets from the current base station are received on a first frequency via a first mobile radio unit (M1) and the hello packets from one or more base stations are received on a second frequency via a second mobile radio unit (M2). When the signal strength value of the current base station exceeds a threshold value, the mobile radio station: selects a destination from the plurality of base stations based on the destination having a highest signal strength value among those in the plurality of base stations that sent hello packets to M2 on the second frequency, and forces a handoff from M1 to M2, by establishing a new link between M2 and the destination base station.

  • Publication number: 20220322206
Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains location data indicative of a location of a mobile system relative to a base station of a wireless network. The device predicts, based on the location data, a drop in received signal strength indicator as the mobile system approaches the base station. The device determines, based on the drop in received signal strength indicator or throughput that will occur as the mobile system approaches the base station. The device prevents the mobile system from communicating with the base station during the ban.

  • Patent number: 11304110
Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile receiver of a mobile station in communication with a current base station of a plurality of base stations receives hello packets from one or more base stations the plurality of base stations, each hello packet including a base station identifier that identifies which base station transmitted that packet. The receiver determines, based on the hello packets, signal strength values associated with each of the plurality of base stations. The receiver periodically analyzes the signal strength values associated with the current base station, to determine whether those signal strength values exceed a threshold value associated with the current base station.
