  • Patent number: 4595878
Abstract: A method of evaluating geologic rock samples and particularly sandstone. The sample is saturated with fresh water and the temperature of the sample is reduced to a temperature below the freezing point of the fresh water. As the sample is warmed, nuclear magnetic resonance measurements are made at just below 0.degree. C. and again at about the operating temperature of the NMR probe, i.e., about 32.degree. C. The portion of the water within the sample that can be considered to be residual water can be determined from the relationship of NMR measurements taken at just below 0.degree. C. and at the temperature of the probe.
