Publication number: 20230215599Abstract: A bi-wire audio cable system designed to reduce propagation velocity (Vp) differentials between low and high frequencies within the audio band, by adjusting the resistive and capacitive components of the cables. By utilizing two cables, one for low frequencies and one for high frequencies, with different characteristics, the impedance of the cables can be configured to be relatively consistent across the audio spectrum, minimizing the change in Vp, thereby increasing audio fidelity. The bi-wire audio system can include a first (e.g. high frequency) cable with a first plurality of insulated conductors having a first conductor gauge; and a second (e.g. low frequency) cable with a second plurality of insulated conductors having a second, larger conductor gauge. The cables can be connected together at an output of an amplifier, and can be connected to corresponding low and high frequency inputs of a speaker (e.g. a woofer and tweeter).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2022Publication date: July 6, 2023Inventor: Galen Gareis

Patent number: 9748022Abstract: Audio cables including a conductor spirally wrapped in a non-conductive thread to centrally position the conductor within a channel comprising mostly air include a first conductor having a first diameter, and a non-conductive thread spirally wrapped around the center conductor, the non-conductive thread having a second diameter. A first jacket surrounds the center conductor and thread, having an inner diameter approximately equal to the first diameter plus twice the second diameter. Patent number: 8431825Abstract: A flat-type cable suitable for use in high frequency communications. The cable has a plurality of longitudinally extending and substantially parallel passageways, each housing a twisted pair conductor. The twisted pair conductors are disposed in the cable in a manner that the twisted pair conductors with the longest lay lengths are disposed in the passageways closest to the edges of the cable, and the passageways farther away from the edges of the cable house twisted pair conductors with progressively shorter lay lengths.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2010Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Belden Inc.Inventor: Galen Gareis

Publication number: 20100263907Abstract: A telecommunications cable and separator spline. In one example the cable includes a cable jacket defining an elongate cable core, a conductor assembly including four twisted pairs of conductors disposed along the core and a plurality of parallel elongate localized and like distensions in an inner surface of the cable jacket. The distensions are substantially evenly spaced about an inner surface of the cable jacket and prevent the conductor assembly from coming into contact with the inner surface. In one example, the distensions are the result of a series of filler elements placed between the cable jacket and the cable core and which wind helicoidally along and about the cable core. The separator spline is comprised of first and second elongate dividing strips having a substantially H shaped cross section and arranged side by side. The spline twists helicoidally along its length.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 30, 2010Publication date: October 21, 2010Applicant: BELDEN TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Gavriel Vexler, Galen Gareis

Patent number: 7772494Abstract: A telecommunications cable having a cable jacket defining an elongate cable core, a conductor assembly comprising four twisted pairs of conductors disposed along the core and parallel elongate distensions formed on an inner surface of the cable jacket. The distensions are spaced about an inner surface of the cable jacket and prevent the conductor assembly from coming into contact with the inner surface. The distensions can be the result of a series of filler elements placed between the cable jacket and the cable core and which wind helicoidally along and about the cable core. A separator spline has first and second elongate dividing strips having a substantially H shaped cross section and arranged side by side. The spline twists helicoidally along its length. The separator spline and the insulation surrounding the twisted pairs of conductors can be manufactured form a material having the same dielectric constant.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2007Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: Belden Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Gavriel Vexler, Galen Gareis

Publication number: 20080041609Abstract: The present invention is for a high performance data cable which has an interior support or star separator. The star separator or interior support extends along the longitudinal length of the data cable. The star separator or interior support has a central region. A plurality of prongs or splines extend outward from the central region along the length of the central region. Each prong or spline is adjacent with at least two other prongs or splines. The prongs or splines may be helixed or S-Z shaped as they extend along the length of the star separator or interior support. Each pair of adjacent prongs or splines defines grooves which extend along the longitudinal length of the interior support. At least two of the grooves have disposed therein an insulated conductor. The star separator in particular improves control of near end cross-talk and allows for the achievement of positive ACR ratios when twisted pair conductors are disposed in the grooves.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Galen Gareis, Paul Vanderlaan

Publication number: 20070193769Abstract: Cables including a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors and a jacket surrounding the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors, the jacket including a plurality of protrusions extending away from an inner circumferential surface of the jacket toward a center of the cable. The plurality of protrusions are configured so as to hold the plurality of twisted pairs away from the inner circumferential surface of the jacket, and may provide an air gap between the plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors and the inner circumferential surface of the jacket, thereby reducing susceptibility of the plurality of twisted pairs to alien near end crosstalk.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2007Publication date: August 23, 2007Inventors: William Clark, Galen Gareis

Patent number: 6974913Abstract: The invention provides a composite wrapping and shielding tape for use in cable manufacture. Embodiments of the composite tape comprise a single tape configuration to separate and shield individual pairs of insulated conductors housed within a cable such as a high-speed data communications cable. The single tape configurations of the invention are multifolded and assembled from foil/film laminates to form a plurality of longitudinal channels or grooves to accommodate one or more pairs of insulated conductors and a variety of cable designs. During cable manufacture, one or more pairs of insulated conductors is wrapped within a continuous shield provided by each longitudinal channel or groove, thereby separating and shielding each pair of insulated conductors and, hence, isolating or at least substantially reducing crosstalk between pairs of insulated conductors contained within the cable. The invention also provides methods for making a multifolded composite tape.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2003Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Neptco IncorporatedInventors: Craig Bahlmann, David Braun, Ethan E. Franklin, Tom Siekierka, Philip Shows, Galen Gareis, Gary Hemmelgarn, Douglas Lindstrand
