  • Patent number: 8281487
Abstract: A method for repairing a gas turbine engine component includes identifying a distorted feature located in a first portion of the component, identifying a second portion of the component that behaves as at least one of a heat sink or a stiffener, removing the second portion of the component from the first portion, cold working the first portion of the component to repair the distorted feature, heat treating the first portion of the component, and metallurgically joining the first portion of the component to the second portion of the component.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 20, 2009
Date of Patent: October 9, 2012
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
    Inventor: Ganesh Anantharaman
  • Patent number: 8245399
Abstract: A method of repairing a case for a gas turbine engine includes removing a first portion of the case from a second portion of the case and metallurgically joining a replacement material to the second portion of the case to form a repaired case. The first portion of the case includes a connection flange having a plurality of bolt holes formed therein. The replacement material has a different coefficient of thermal expansion than a parent material of the second portion of the case.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 20, 2009
Date of Patent: August 21, 2012
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Ganesh Anantharaman, David J. Bartholic
  • Patent number: 8230569
Abstract: A method for repairing damaged bolt holes in a flange having a plurality of circumferentially spaced bolt holes therein, with each bolt hole defining a center axis and the flange defining an outer diameter edge. The method includes removing parent material of the flange in a first pattern, and metallurgically joining a replacement detail to the parent material of the flange a location where the parent material of the flange was removed in the first pattern. The first pattern is bounded by first, second, third and fourth points. The first point corresponds to the center axis of a first of the plurality of bolt holes, the second point corresponds to center axis of a second of the plurality of bolt holes, and the third and fourth points are defined at the outer diameter edge of the flange circumferentially spaced from each other.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 20, 2009
Date of Patent: July 31, 2012
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
