Publication number: 20240110218Abstract: A biological indicator system for determining the efficacy of a sterilization process is provided. The system includes a radiofrequency identification sensing board having a radiofrequency identification tag, a microcontroller/digital electronics, a sensing pad, and a circuit coupled to the sensing pad that measures an impedance level or a resistance level of the sensing pad upon exposure to a volatile organic compound. The radiofrequency identification tag includes a radiofrequency integrated circuit and an antenna that communicates wirelessly with a radiofrequency identification reader to transmit data associated with the impedance or resistance levels measured from the sensing pad. The data can be transmitted in real-time during incubation, and this data can then be sent to a user interface to determine the efficacy of a sterilization process when the biological indicator system is placed in a sterilization chamber during a sterilization cycle. A method of using the system is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Christopher Valenta, Jie Xu, Brian E. Lin, Anthony S. Spencer, Marshall R. Dean, Ganesh B. Pavalarajan

Patent number: 11793250Abstract: Implementations described herein include surgical helmet assemblies that have a helmet enclosure shaped to encircle a head of a user. The helmet enclosure retains a fan and includes a brow bar portion at a front of the helmet enclosure that is shaped to extend along a brow or a forehead of the user and having a light positioned therein. The helmet enclosure also includes a stabilizer extending downward from the helmet enclosure in front of the ears of a user, a face shield that is transparent and coupleable to at least the brow bar portion, a headband shaped to extend across an occiput region of the user's head, and a surgical garment for covering at least the head and shoulders of a user in use. The brow bar portion includes vents disposed therein to direct airflow pushed through the helmet enclosure from the fan onto the user.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2021Date of Patent: October 24, 2023Assignee: Zimmer, Inc.Inventors: Ganesh B Pavalarajan, Douglas C Barker, John Bartholomew, George Brand, Anna Diorio-Blum, Larry Keith Hooks, Jr., Steven E. Patent number: 10709911Abstract: A surgical helmet assembly including a ventilation system for circulating air around the head of a user. The surgical helmet assembly includes a surgical helmet including a brow bar to be positioned around the head of the user and a chin bar extending from the surgical helmet to be positioned in front of the chin of the user. The chin bar and brow bar include an airflow channel in fluid communication with a fan at the rear of the surgical helmet. The fan generates a flow of air from an airflow inlet at the rear of the surgical helmet through the airflow channel in the chin bar to an airflow outlet in the chin bar and past a user's face in an upward direction and through the airflow channel in the brow bar to an airflow outlet in the brow bar and upward over the user's head.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2013Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: Zimmer Surgical, Inc.Inventors: Ganesh B. Pavalarajan, Christopher Fedele, Brian S. Schumacher, Sarah L. Lancianese
