Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a private broadcast channel service, e.g., a virtual closed circuit television service, on packet networks such as Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks are disclosed. For example, a customer subscribes to the private broadcast channel service for a group having a plurality of confirmed members who have confirmed their desire to participate. The network service provider enables one or more of the group members to upload media content to the service provider's network. The service provider then broadcasts the uploaded media content to all the confirmed members such that each confirmed member may view the media content by simply tuning to the appropriate channel assigned for the private broadcast channel service.

Abstract: A method and system for user to user targeted advertising using a digital television delivery service, such as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) or digital cable. Content is received and delivery information is specified via an IP network. The content is then delivered as advertising content based on the delivery information to at least one targeted user as part of a digital data stream. The advertising content and delivery information can be input by a user through a web interface.

Abstract: A method and system for sensing and reporting various types of user presence using “buddy list” applications. A buddy list client senses various types of user presence of a user and sends status information corresponding to the sensed user presence to a server. The buddy list client also receives status information from the server corresponding to various types of user presence information of buddies, and displays a buddy list indicating the various types of user presence information of the buddies. This can be implemented on an IPTV client in order to sense and display presence information relating to a user watching television.
