  • Publication number: 20210181250
Abstract: A method for detecting non-convergence error in a transient circuit simulation wherein a circuit netlist and control statements associated with a circuit for the transient circuit simulation are received. A transient circuit simulation is performed responsive to a time point. Whether a non-convergence error has occurred during transient circuit simulation is determined. A transient debug mode is actuated responsive to determination of occurrence of the non-convergence error. The steps of performing the transient circuit simulation and determining whether a non-convergence error has occurred are repeated after actuation of the transient debug mode. Results of the transient circuit simulation are provided responsive to a determination of non-occurrence of a non-convergence error.

  • Publication number: 20150317417
Abstract: A method (and system) includes receiving a set of nonlinear algebraic equations for a system at a current time point, calculating a set of solutions to the set of nonlinear algebraic equations by using a first time step, and determining whether a maximum value of a local truncation error associated with a first solution of the set of solutions is greater than a threshold. Based on the maximum value of the local truncation error being greater than the threshold, the method includes iteratively calculating a coupled set of equations to generate a second time step so as to make a maximum value of local truncation error associated with a set of solutions to the coupled set of equations not greater than the threshold, wherein the coupled set of equations comprises the received set of nonlinear algebraic equations and a local truncation error equation corresponding to the first solution, with a time step that is an unknown variable in the coupled set of equations.

  • Publication number: 20140244223
Abstract: A simulation system (1) prevents failure of simulation computations to converge due to out-of-range conditions of a first device model including a first equation (Eqn.(1)) utilized in simulation computations involving the first device model by identifying an out-of-range condition (e.g., vd>V0) which is likely to prevent convergence of simulation computations involving the first equation during a simulation run, and by automatically providing a second equation (Eqn.(6) or Eqn.(9)) in place of the first equation (Eqn.(1)), wherein the second equation defines a simpler mathematical function than the first equation and is more likely than the first equation to allow simulation computations to converge to a desired solution during the simulation run. The method includes automatically determining any time at which the out-of-range condition no longer exists and automatically modifying the first device model by replacing the second equation with the first equation.

  • Patent number: 8437988
Abstract: Methods, computer systems, and computer readable media are provided for simulation of a model of a system by detecting a violation of a cross condition while iteratively refining a first solution of a system of nonlinear algebraic equations at a current time point, and responsive to the detecting, predicting a crossing time step, projecting an initial guess for a second solution of the system of nonlinear algebraic equations at the crossing time point, and iteratively refining the second solution and the crossing time step by jointly solving an equation for the cross condition with the system of nonlinear algebraic equations as a coupled nonlinear system in which the crossing time step is treated as an unknown to compute changes to the second solution and the crossing time step in each iteration.

  • Patent number: 8312399
Abstract: Over the years, parallel processing has become increasingly common. Conventional circuit simulators have not taken full advantage of these developments, however. Here, a circuit simulator and system are provided that partitions circuit matrices to allow for more efficient parallel processing to take place. By doing this, the overall speed and reliability of the circuit simulator can be increased.

  • Patent number: 8200461
Abstract: Simulation method and system for analyzing the stability of a modeled electronic circuit. Simulation of the transient response to a desired input stimulus is performed in a piece-wise fashion, in a sequence of transient time points. At one or more user-specified time points (“tpunch” points) within the transient interval, the state of the circuit in the transient response at that time point is applied to the model as if it were a DC operating point, and the small-signal stability of the circuit under those conditions is analyzed. Transient instability of the circuit is thus discovered by way of simulation, allowing the designer to determine the cause and cure of that instability.

  • Publication number: 20110257943
Abstract: When modeling a circuit, transient analysis is an important part of the analysis. However, for transient analyses, device model evaluating can consume a considerable amount of time, when using conventional simulators. Here, a simulator is provided that allows for detection of latency on a node-by-node basis, as opposed to a device-by-device basis with conventional simulators. Using this type of analysis can greatly reduce the time of an analysis, which affects both the cost of a product and its time to market.
