    Abstract: A method for treating subcutaneous fat with RF energy is disclosed. The method includes determining a thickness of a layer of fat of a portion of tissue to be treated. Based on the determined thickness, an RF frequency is selected. In particular, lower frequencies are used for thicker layers of fat while higher frequencies are used for thinner layers of fat. RF heating is applied to the portion of the tissue by applying RF energy at the selected RF frequency.
