A window of the probe body maintains sterile isolation and transmits electromagnetic energy to and/or signals from the oral object. Accuracy can be enhanced by a clamp or other structure for engaging a surface of the oral object so as to maintain a fixed alignment between the signal receiver and the oral object.

A filter section (104) can prevent metastable states of latch output signals from propagating through to output signals (BUSY2 and BUSY1). In addition, filter section (104) can generate output signals (BUSY2 and BUSY1) having one set of values when both inputs are inactive, and a second set of values when latch (102) is in the metastable state.

An embodiment of an input buffer includes a differential circuit and a plurality of switches coupled with the differential circuit. The plurality of switches applies a voltage to the differential circuit in a first state and isolate the differential circuit from the voltage in a second state.
