  • Patent number: 8243033
Abstract: A low-cost x-y digitizing system for use in consumer electronic devices, such as portable digital assistants, mobile telephones, web browsers and the like. The digitizer includes a resonant stylus, an excitation winding for energizing the resonant stylus and a set of sensor windings for sensing the signal generated by the stylus, from which the x-y position of the stylus is determined. A novel stylus design is described together with novel digitizer windings and novel excitation and processing circuitry.

Date of Patent: August 14, 2012
    Assignee: Synaptics (UK) Limited
Inventors: David T. E. Ely, Geoffrey Foote, Julian Haines, Gareth J. McCaughan
  • Publication number: 20120008181
Abstract: We describe a method of determining an aberration correction for a holographic image display system using a spatial light modulator (SLM) to display a hologram. Embodiments of the invention measure the corrections needed for a particular projection system, using the same system SLM as used to generate the images to provide wavefront-sensing holograms. The projector's projection optics are used to provide the wavefront sensor and there is no need for lenslets. Embodiments of the invention use a plurality of successive holograms directing light from differently-located patches on the hologram into the image.

  • Patent number: 7202859
Abstract: A capacitive sensor is disclosed. The capacitive sensor comprises a plurality of spaced-apart X traces disposed along an X axis and a plurality of spaced-apart Y traces disposed along a Y axis with each of the Y traces forming a single crossing with each of the X traces. The X traces and the Y traces are arranged in an intertwined pattern about each crossing. The X traces and the Y traces are insulated from each other.

  • Publication number: 20040233178
Abstract: A low cost x-y digitising system is described for use in consumer electronic devices, such as portable digital assistants, mobile telephones, web browsers and the like. The digitiser includes a resonant stylus, an excitation winding for energising the resonant stylus and a set of sensor windings for sensing the signal generated by the stylus, from which the x-y position of the stylus is determined. A novel stylus design is described together with novel digitiser windings and novel excitation and processing circuitry.
