Abstract: Source code of a graphical designer application may be generated from a definition of graphical elements that can be employed to develop graphical models using the graphical designer application, a definition of one or more object types that can be represented in graphical models developed using the graphical designer application, and a definition of a mapping between the one or more object types and the graphical elements. One or more of these definitions may be stored within a file formatted in accordance with a markup language such as SGML or XML. The graphical designer application may be customized and extended by modifying one or more of the definitions and regenerating the source code and/or by modifying the source code itself. One or more of the definitions may be generated based on a graphical designer template corresponding to a particular model domain.

Abstract: A light emitting semiconductor device mounted on a heat sink and having a heat pipe located on its upper surface. The heat pipe comprises a sealed cylindrical member of transparent or translucent material having a wick disposed down the side and along the bottom thereof. The heat is partially filled with a liquid which is placed under a partial vacuum to reduce its boiling point. A bundle of optical fibres may be provided within the heat pipe, with the gaps created between the optical fibres providing an efficient capillary action within the heat pipe for transport of vapour to the cool end of the pipe and for transport of condensed coolant to the hot end of the pipe.

Abstract: A detection system comprising modulation means for applying a circular polarisation modulation to an incident beam of radiation, sample holding means through which the modulated beam is passed, a grating to diffract the beam of radiation, an array of solid state detectors arranged to receive different wavelengths of the beam, and processing means arranged to synchronise detected signals with the modulation applied by the modulation means, in order to measure the spectral circular dichroism of the sample.

Abstract: A slide fastener is provided which has two sliders arranged to be slidable on a pair of interlocking stringers so as to open the fastener when separated and close the fastener when brought together, at least one receiving portion disposed on one of the sliders, at least one latching member disposed on one of the sliders and engageable with the receiving portion. The sliders engage and are separated by deformation of the receiving portion and/or the latching member. The slider body portion is formed separately to the latch body portion so that different materials may be used. A two part slider having a decorative surface body portion, in place of the latch body portion, is also disclosed.

Abstract: A designer tool that facilitates design of an object model. The tool takes as input a computer-readable representation of a graph of objects (e.g., classes), and creates automatically one or more diagrams that depict these classes as editable trees showing their relationships and properties. These graphs naturally have a tree-like structure which is exploited by the approach. The design tool system includes a layout component that receives as input one or more of the graphs, and converts the one or more graphs into the editable treelike structure. The system further comprises a presentation component that presents the editable treelike structure as a treelike structure diagram, and facilitates user interaction therewith. The tool can be used for opening, editing and saving existing object model files or to create new ones.

Abstract: An optical apparatus comprising a sample holding means (11), a detector (2) and first and second light selection means (5, 6, 15), the sample holding means being provided with a window to receive incident light (3) from a light source, the first light selection means (5) being arranged to allow light that passes from the sample holding means in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of the incident light to pass to the detector, and the second light selection means (6, 15) being arranged to allow light that is emitted from the sample holding means in a direction substantially transverse to the direction of the incident light to pass to the detector.

Abstract: Method and device for treatment of skin conditions A method and apparatus for improving the cosmetic appearance of a region of skin 11 affected by Acne Vulgaris, Rosacea or similar skin condition by means of directing light radiation 12 from an illuminating device 1 on to the skin 11. The apparatus 10 comprises a control unit 9 that operates one or more LEDs 7 (light emitting diodes) of the illuminating device 1. Each dose of light radiation 12 lasts for at least 100 ms, during which time the skin 11 receives light energy from the LED(s) 7, which causes a photochemical reaction that stimulates the production of free radicals (singlet oxygen) that react with, and at least partially disable or destroy, bacteria that contribute to the symptoms of the skin condition. The light energy directed on to the skin 11 during any given period of 10 ?s is less than 0.5 Jcm?2, and during any given period of 100 ms is less than 5 Jcm?2. Substantially no beneficial photo-thermal reaction occurs within the skin 11.

Abstract: An internet-based system and method are provided for allowing component hardware repair and disposition collaboration by internal users and external users. A server is configured with a database of component service needs and component service solutions. The server is configured with a user interface allowing a user to input information into the database. This information, including component service capabilities and component service needs, is uploaded to the server. A user can then download information from the database including service capabilities of other users. A computer, having a connection to the server, allows the user to upload and download information.

Abstract: A method of determining the presence or onset of capillary leakage includes introducing into the blood stream of the subject a first low dosage of a low molecular weight macromolecular material and determining the volume of distribution thereof (an apparent volume of distribution). The determined value of volume of distribution is influenced not only by extravasation through the capillary wall but also by binding of smaller molecules to pores or receptor binding sites in the wall which occurs much faster than extravasation and is an important indicator of the onset of capillary leakage. The process is repeated with a high dose of high molecular weight macromolecular material to determine a further volume of distribution (the true circulating plasma volume). The two values are compared to determine the presence or onset of capillary leakage.
