  • Patent number: 7949936
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for identifying advertising for a web page. In response to receiving a universal resource locator containing identification information for selected text in the web page, the web page is retrieved to form a retrieved web page. The selected text in the web page is identified. Advertisements for the web page are identified using the selected text to form identified advertisements. The identified advertisements are placed in the web page.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 24, 2011
    Assignee: International Business Machines Corporation
Inventors: Nancy Lynn Friedman, Rick Allen Hamilton, II, Brian Marshall O'Connell, Garfield Winston Vaughn
  • Patent number: 7949935
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for processing a web page. A selection of a section of text in a web page is received to form selected text. Identification information for the selected text is generated, wherein the identification information includes an identification of the selected text and a location of the selected text in the web page. The identification information is placed into a universal resource locator for the web page, wherein the universal resource locator is used to present the web page in a browser at the location.

  • Patent number: 7761225
Abstract: A routing method and system. The method includes receiving by a global positioning satellite (GPS) transceiver, a user profile comprising user preference data and destination location data. The GPS transceiver retrieves first geospatial coordinate values for a current location of the user and a destination location. The GPS transceiver processes the user profile and the first geospatial coordinate values to identify a geographical route for traveling from the current location to the destination location. The GPS transceiver retrieves current traffic speed/traffic density data and historical traffic speed/traffic density data associated with second geospatial coordinate values for various locations located along the first geographical route. The GPS transceiver processes the current traffic speed/traffic density data and the historical traffic speed/traffic density data to determine if the first geographical route comprises an efficient geographical route for the user.

  • Publication number: 20080294337
Abstract: A method and implementing computer system are provided in which users are enabled to provide spontaneous routing and driving condition information to a data base which is made available to other drivers on a real-time basis. Users are also enabled to define new routes between travel points and upload new route information for access by other users of the system. In an exemplary embodiment, wireless communication techniques are implemented to transfer data from a GPS device in an automobile to a data base on a central server to provide other users of the system who have access to the data base with the current status of dynamic driving conditions.
