  • Patent number: 9054543
Abstract: Electronic circuits and methods are provided for power conservation applications. A latching relay includes a controlled switch electrically coupled within a power supply of a computer or other load. Circuitry of the present teachings controls operation of the latching relay. Set and reset conditions of the latching relay establish normal and deep standby operating modes for the computer, respectively. Manual switching or automated signaling are used to assert the set and reset relay conditions. Very low power consumption is achieved during the deep standby mode of operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 21, 2009
Date of Patent: June 9, 2015
    Assignee: HEWLETT-PACKARD DEVELOPMENT COMPANY, L.P.
Inventors: Garland Lee, Sam Babb, Eugene Dvoskin, John Spencer
  • Patent number: 8723357
Abstract: Electronic circuitry and methods are provided. Electrical energy is coupled to a transformer by way of line filter of a power supply. A clipper circuit limits the alternating-current voltage applied to the primary side. A voltage tripler receives output from the secondary side of the transformer and a resulting voltage is coupled to a voltage regulator. At least one regulated direct-current voltage is output to a load and is maintained while a current pulse is applied to a predetermined device. The electronic circuitry conforms to pending power conservation requirements for computers and other equipment.

  • Publication number: 20050237717
Abstract: A pair of cooling fans in an electronic system is operated synchronously at a common speed and with a particular phase relationship between their respective acoustic properties that minimizes the combined acoustic noise produced by the pair of cooling fans.

  • Publication number: 20050047761
Abstract: A method for reducing commutation-related acoustic noise in a fan system is provided. A constant frequency periodic signal is generated and a fan commutation event is synchronized with a zero level value of the constant frequency periodic signal. A system for controlling a direct current fan is provided. The system comprises a signal generator adapted to produce a periodic signal of a constant frequency and a phase-locked loop. A zero level value of the periodic signal is synchronized with a commutation event of the fan.

  • Patent number: 6275591
Abstract: An extracting assembly for extracting a component signal generated by a component source from a composite signal is disclosed wherein a reference sensor generates a reference signal relating to activity of the component source, a composite sensor senses the composite signal, an adaptive filter is operatively connected to the reference sensor and the composite sensor to filter the component signal from the composite signal as a function of the reference signal generated by the reference sensor, and a normalizer operatively connected to the adaptive filter for normalizing the step size of each iteration taken by the adaptive filter to minimize the time to adapt the adaptive filter to transform the reference signal into the component signal.
