  • Patent number: 6447518
Abstract: An improved flexible shaft used in the reaming of the medullary space in bones is described. The shaft is comprised of a solid element with a longitudinal bore the entire length and an appropriately formed slot which extends spirally around the shaft either continuously or segmentally. Attached to the shaft's opposite ends respectively, are a cutting head and a means of connecting the shaft to a driving mechanism. Additionally, an improved anthropomorphic spinal element and vertebral body replacement implant are described. The anthropomorphic spinal element is composed of a solid element with a longitudinal bore and an appropriately formed slot that extends spirally around the shaft either continuously or segmentally and is completely or partially filled with an elastomeric material.

  • Patent number: 6258093
Abstract: The invention provides a cutter head that reduces the cutting force and number of reamers required by increasing the depth of cut or cutting length. The cutting head uses at least one tooth placed along the length of flutes formed within the body of the cutting head. The grooves forming the flutes can follow a first helical path along the body length, maintaining a substantially constant path over a major portion of the entire length in relation to the axes or, alternatively, have a constantly changing path. A second pattern can follow a second, contiguous helical path that has a second radial orientation to the axis. The teeth can be formed from a sinusoidal wave form comprised of a continuous radius going from convex to concave, with each of the teeth having a predetermined pitch from the crest to the base. In another embodiment the crest of the teeth on the first flute is offset axially by a predetermined distance from the teeth on the adjacent flutes.

  • Patent number: 5238242
Abstract: A modular bowling alley pit assembly includes a drawer-like structure which is adapted for positioning within the pit area at one end of a bowling alley. The modular assembly also includes a pair of rollers and an endless belt which passes around the rollers for moving fallen pins rearwardly from the alley and ball deflecting means for moving a ball toward a ball return mechanism. A forward one of said rollers also defines an uninterrupted surface about the roller. The assembly also includes a pair of angularly disposed tracking rollers for engaging the endless belt and the entire assembly is readily removed from the pit area for replacement or repair.

  • Patent number: 5076582
Abstract: A mechanism for lifting bowling balls from the pit area of a bowling alley to a ball return runway at or above the level of the bowling alley includes a ball elevator mechanism in which a bowling ball is moved upwards along a track by frictional engagement with a conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is driven by two pulleys mounted on a support rod which is itself pivotal about a rolling pivot in response to an eccentric cam arrangement which moves the lower pulley away from the track in order to provide clearance for the ball, and then moves the lower pulley towards the track so that the belt securely engages the ball and moves it up the track. An oscillating paddle is driven by a spherical cam arranged on a speed reduction pulley which also drives the eccentric cam arrangement so that the paddle and elevator mechanism move in synchronism via a common drive.
