  • Patent number: 7874013
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a secure and granular index for information is described herein. According to one embodiment of the invention a computer-implemented method is described including evaluating a user query against a set of documents having sub-document level security control, determining a security access for said user, and providing a result for the user query based on the security access for the user and the sub-document level security control.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2007
Date of Patent: January 18, 2011
    Assignee: Sawteeth, Inc.

  • Patent number: 7181680
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a query is provided. A query for a set of Matching XML documents is received. A client may transmit the query for a set of XML documents to the database server. The database server transmits a request for the set of XML documents to a persistent storage. The persistent storage uses an index, at least in part, to obtain the set of XML documents sought by the query. The index stores a first set of entries comprising information about the location of elements, a second set of entries comprising information about element attributes, and a third set of entries comprising information about element values. In responding to a particular query, additional XML documents that are not indexed by the index may also be checked to determine if they correspond to the set of search criteria.

  • Patent number: 6980976
Abstract: A database management system and method provides access to a data table having structured data and unstructured data. A user interface allows a user to issue instructions to the database management system such as to build an index based on the structured and unstructured data and to search the data table. An indexing logic generates an index structure by combining the structured and unstructured data. With this index structure, a single query can contain search conditions from both the structured data and the unstructured data. In this manner, efficiency for searching the data table for combined structured and unstructured conditions is improved.
