  • Patent number: 7464721
Abstract: A Safety Instrumented System for use with a process control system receives pressure of process fluid in the process piping. A valve positioner positions a valve which controls flow of process fluid through the process piping. The valve positioner is caused to perform a partial stroke of the valve or otherwise introduce a perturbation into the process. A resulting change in sensed pressure due to the perturbation is used to diagnose operation of the process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 14, 2004
Date of Patent: December 16, 2008
    Assignee: Rosemount Inc.
Inventors: Dale Perry, Mark Schumacher, Garrie Huisenga, Randy Longsdorf
  • Patent number: 7098798
Abstract: A process device for use in a process control system includes output circuitry configured to couple to a process control loop. The output circuitry controls electrical current through the loop. Loop override circuitry is configured to override operation of the output circuitry and set the electrical current in the loop to a desired level.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20050248477
Abstract: A circuit includes a multiplexer, an analog-to-digital converter, and a processor that compares a sequence of digital outputs from the analog-to-digital converter to a sequence of normal ranges that correspond with the digital outputs in order to provide an error output when one of the digital outputs is outside its normal range.

  • Publication number: 20050231182
Abstract: A process field device for coupling to a two wire process control loop includes a field device circuitry and a switching regulator to power the circuitry. A series regulator provides a regulated supply voltage to the switching regulator. A noise filter reduces the amount of noise from the switching regulator which enters the two wire process control loop.

  • Publication number: 20050168343
Abstract: A process device is configured for coupling to a two wire process control loop. Loop current output circuitry is configured to apply an output current to the two wire process control loop. Loop current verification circuitry is coupled to the two wire process control loop and configured to detect errors in the applied output current. At least a portion of the loop current verification circuitry is independent from the loop current output circuitry.

  • Publication number: 20050030185
Abstract: A process device for use on an industrial process control system includes a quiescent current sensor configured to sense quiescent current draw of the process device. Diagnostic circuitry determines a diagnostic condition of the process device as a function of the sensed quiescent current.
