  • Publication number: 20240102306
Abstract: A method of designing a modular cooling tower cell which may utilize mechanicals from a preexisting cell and assembling the modular cell within a cooling field in-situ using a series of custom modules. After collecting a data set from a preexisting cooling tower cell and removing the preexisting tower, a build specification is generated, including calculating a cut list for vertical and horizontal members which will form the basis of the plurality of modules forming the cell. The members are fabricated and include a plurality of connection points which allow for sizing adjustments without affecting the connection points. The modules are then constructed using the data set from the preexisting tower to form a plurality of modules comprising a cell matrix based on the data set from the preexisting cooling tower cell.

  • Patent number: 9973114
Abstract: A method and system for reducing rollback in a counterbalancing system as a holding brake is released is disclosed. A limited amount of movement of a drive shaft is present in the holding brake. A motor drive provides current to the motor with the holding brake set such that a torque is applied at the drive shaft. The current is controlled to generate torque in both directions. The limited amount of movement in the brake may be used to determine a direction and magnitude of torque required to support a mechanical load being applied to the motor. The motor drive then provides a current to generate the necessary torque required to support the load prior to releasing the holding brake.

  • Patent number: 9142260
Abstract: Systems, methods, and components include an improved universal disk container for use in transporting, storing and processing data storage disks or other disk-shaped articles. A disk shipping system and method for shipping disks allows stocking a minimal number of components while still allowing packaging and shipment of different thickness of disks and different capacities of disks in a container. A universal disk cassette includes slots having a narrowed lower portion configured for handling different disks of the same diameter but different thicknesses while preventing disk to disk contact when the disks are tilted. A universal top cover is configured for cassettes loaded with different thicknesses of disks. The universal top cover can readily accommodate disks that are tilted in the cassette, and with vacuum bagging, more securely fix the disks in place in the container.

  • Patent number: 9093937
Abstract: A system for determining the angular position of a synchronous motor includes an encoder with a friction wheel engaging a rotating surface of the motor. The friction wheel is spun by the rotation of the motor, and the encoder generates a signal corresponding to the angular position of the friction wheel. An independent, sensor is provided to generate a pulse once per revolution of the motor. The independent sensor detects the presence of a target on the rotating surface of the motor and generates the pulse when the target is proximate to the sensor. A controller receives the signal corresponding to the angular position of the friction wheel as well as the pulse generated by the independent sensor to determine the angular position of the motor. The controller compensates the angular position of the motor each time the pulse is generated, correcting accumulated position error.

  • Patent number: 8836470
Abstract: A system for interfacing facility access with control employs an electronic bridge that transparently conveys data between functional devices, such as remotely located card readers and door strikes, and a network incorporating a control and monitor computer that has access to a database of user identifications and permissions. The electronic bridge is flexibly configured to accept a wide range of protocols used by the devices and converts messages to data packets without prior knowledge of the length of the message.

A universal top cover configured for cassettes loaded with different thicknesses of disks, i.e., a cassette loaded with 0.025 inch disks, or the same cassette loaded with 0.050 inch disks.

  • Patent number: 6902059
Abstract: The disk carrier is used to house and secure a plurality of disks and comprises a disk cassette having an open top, an open bottom, and end wall ingresses; a top cover; and a bottom cover. The top cover has flaps to cover the end wall ingresses. To reduce particulation from opening and closing the disk carrier, one embodiment of the disk carrier implements an articulation in the flaps. Another embodiment implements a living hinge on the bottom cover. The disk carrier also has a path to ground for dissipating static and other electrical charge away from the disks.
