  • Patent number: 7054419
Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting an answering machine for a new voice message delivery method and system. The invention detects the presence of an existing answering machine or voicemail system of a Recipient by listening for talk-over during playback of the message or initial prompts. The method and system will also restart playback of the prompts and/or message if talk-over is detected to ensure that the message is properly recorded on the answering machine.

  • Patent number: 6816850
Abstract: A method of organizing information in which the search activity of previous users is monitored and such activity is used to organize articles for future users. Personal data about future users can be used to provide different article rankings depending on the search activity and personal data of the previous users. The personal data is used in the development of an index, the index including entries for specific categories of personal data. The similarity or difference in the prior results for a query term determine if separate index entries are needed for the categories and terms being considered.

  • Patent number: 6785363
Abstract: A voice message delivery method and system for delivering voice messages from a Sender to a Receiver, where neither the Sender nor the Receiver are required to be Subscribers to the system. The invention allows voice messages to be delivered to non-Subscribers and, if they are not how, to be recorded into the existing answering machine or voicemail system of the Recipient. Advertisements played during either the process of sending or receiving a message provide revenue for a company providing the service of the present invention without requiring users to become Subscribers.

  • Patent number: 6078916
Abstract: A method of organizing information in which the search activity of a user is monitored and such activity is used to organize articles in a subsequent search. The invention operates by assigning scores to articles under key term components in an index. As users enter search queries and select articles, the scores are altered according to, among other things, the amount of time spent inspecting an article, whether the article is the last one inspected, how many articles are ranked higher than the article, how many articles have been previously inspected by the user, and whether an advertising banner was selected by the user. The scores are then used in subsequent searches to organize the articles that match a search query. As millions of people use the Internet, type in millions of search queries, and display or select the many articles available over the Internet, the present invention uses this search activity to rank information available over the Internet through an evolutionary process.

  • Patent number: 6018334
Abstract: A computer pointing device including a supporting member which supports or forms a part of a conventionally-known QWERTY keyboard. The supporting member is movable relative to a supporting surface and includes a sensor for sensing directional movements or directional pressures of the supporting member relative to the supporting surface. Alternatively, a palm rest can be movably coupled relative to the supporting member and include a sensor for sensing directional movements or pressures applied to palm rest. The sensor can be coupled to a computer to control a pointer on the computer display. By these structures, a user can operate the computer pointing device without moving the hands from the QWERTY keyboard by moving the QWERTY keyboard and/or the adjacent palm rest relative to a supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 6014665
Abstract: A method of organizing information in which the search activity of users is monitored and such activity is used to suggest additional key terms for addition to a search query. The invention operates by assigning scores to key term groupings in an index. As users enter search queries of two or more key terms, the scores are altered. The scores are then used in subsequent searches to suggest other key terms which can be added to the search query to narrow the search. As millions of people use the Internet and type in millions of search queries, the invention learns which key terms should be suggested for addition to a search query through an evolutionary process.

  • Patent number: 6006222
Abstract: A method of organizing information in which the search activity of a user is monitored and such activity is used to organize articles in a subsequent search by the same or another user who enters a similar search query. The invention operates by assigning scores to articles under the key terms in the index. As users enter search queries and select articles, the scores are altered. The scores are then used in subsequent searches to organize the articles that match a search query. As millions of people use the Internet, type in millions of search queries, and display or select from the many articles available over the Internet, the ranks the information available over the Internet through an evolutionary process. The invention includes additional embodiments which incorporate category key terms and rating key terms.
