  • Publication number: 20050032673
Abstract: There is provided a composition for anti-cancer or anti-inflammatory treatment having an effective amount of N-terminally truncated galectin-3 or its homologues, antibodies to galectin-3 carbohydrate binding sites, or a nucleic acid sequences encoding N-terminally truncated galectin-3 or its homologues, in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also provided by the present invention is a method of treating disease by administering to a patient in need of such treatment an effective amount of N-terminally truncated galectin-3, its homologues, antibody to galectin-3 carbohydrate binding sites, or a nucleic acid sequence encoding N-terminally truncated galectin-3 in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

  • Patent number: 6489926
Abstract: An antenna for a communications device with a design to minimize human exposure to emitted electromagnetic energy. The antenna incorporates a shield wall and directing buds having the property of reflecting, deflecting or absorbing RF frequency waves. The shield wall and directing buds direct transmitted communication signals away from the immediate user and other bystanders in the vicinity of the communications device while simultaneously directing a stronger signal towards a receiver. Alternative embodiments of the antenna include the ability to extend or swivel. These features allow the antenna to be positioned to maximize transmission/reception while simultaneously minimizing human exposure.

  • Patent number: 6036718
Abstract: A blood pressure cuff having a pair of flexible gas-impermeable sheets wherein each of the sheets has an inner and an outer side and wherein the inner sides are placed in contact and the edges of the sheets are fused along a periphery thereof to form an interior chamber. At least one hook fastener portion is disposed on one outer side of one of the sheets and at least one loop portion is disposed on an outer side of the other of the sheets. A conduit means is attached to one of the flexible sheets for connecting to a source of pressurized fluid for allowing inflation and deflation of the interior chamber. The sheets are fused together by RF welding along a perimeter of one outer side of one of the sheets. The hook fastener portion, the loop portion, and the conduit means are each RF welded to an outer side of one of said sheets.
