  • Patent number: 11945178
Abstract: Equipment for forming a tubular rod of fibrous material comprises: a gathering station constructed to receive a continuous supply of fibres and to gather the fibres into a bundle as the fibres advance through the equipment; a divider arranged in the path of the fibres through the equipment and constructed to from a cleft along the length of the bundle as it advances through the equipment; a mandrel positioned in the path of the bundle of fibres in alignment with the divider and constructed to form the cleft into a passage through the bundle of fibres as the bundle of fibres advances over the mandrel; and a die constructed and arranged to cooperate with the mandrel to form the fibres in a tubular configuration around the mandrel.

  • Publication number: 20230225857
Abstract: An intraocular lens (IOL) injector cartridge having one or more modifications from conventional designs which reduce stress and strain in the optic of the IOL during passage through the cartridge. One change includes adding axially-oriented ribs in a funnel portion of the cartridge to enable the cartridge wall to flex outward during passage of the IOL, which is compressed to a great degree in the cartridge lumen. Another modification involves providing a longitudinal step along a segment of the inner lumen which biases one free edge of the optic to tuck or dive under the other free edge and encourage spiral folding as the IOL progresses along the gradually narrowing lumen. The third option is modifying the shape of the lumen within the extreme distal end of the cartridge where the lumen is smallest so that it is neither circular nor oval. Each or all of these modifications may be incorporated into a single cartridge.

  • Patent number: 11079614
Abstract: The invention provides an improved rotationally stabilized contact lens design and method of designing such a lens which minimizes stabilization time of the lens while maximizing the lens on-eye comfort. The lens and the method of designing the lens further improves upon an earlier method which utilizes and combines non-circularity and thickness differential aspects which results in equivalent or minimized stabilization time, ease of insertion and manufacturability as well as maximum comfort that is improved over that of what either aspect can achieve independently. This further improvement of stiffness profile is achieved by optimizing and selectively addressing thickness differential both diametrically and circumferentially in a non-round lens design.

  • Publication number: 20140107776
Abstract: A scleral prosthesis includes an elongated body that is narrower in a middle and wider at opposing first and second ends. The body includes multiple first portions that form the first end of the body, where the first portions separated lengthwise along the body. The first portions are biased to maintain separation without external interference but are configured to be pushed towards each other in order to narrow a width of the first end. The body could also include second portions that form the second end of the body. The body could further include a cavity configured to receive a material and an eluting surface configured to release the material from the cavity. In addition, the body could include a cavity configured to receive a material and a protrusion that extends away from the scleral prosthesis, where the protrusion is configured to release the material from the cavity.
