  • Patent number: 4216678
Abstract: A drive system especially adapted for driving accessories associated with the engine of a vehicle and controlled essentially by the speed of the engine crankshaft. The drive system comprises a pair of variable pulleys interconnected by a flexible belt, one pulley being driven from the engine crankshaft and the other pulley being associated with one or more accessories.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 17, 1978
Date of Patent: August 12, 1980
    Assignee: Borg-Warner Corporation
Inventors: Roger P. Butterfield, David C. Wade, Gary A. Woollard
  • Patent number: 4147068
Abstract: A drive system for driving accessories associated with the engine of a vehicle and controlled by the speed of the engine crankshaft, constructed such that the rpm of each accessory is substantially constant over at least the major portion of the normal vehicle operating range regardless of increase in the rpm of the engine and its crankshaft. The drive is so constructed that the input rpm to each accessory increases at substantially the same rate as the rpm of the crankshaft to a first, predetermined speed; then the input to each accessory is substantially constant thereafter regardless of increasing engine speed to a second predetermined crankshaft speed. This second predetermined speed preferably corresponds essentially to the established national speed limit.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 11, 1975
Date of Patent: April 3, 1979
    Assignee: Borg-Warner Corporation
Inventors: Gary A. Woollard, Richard L. Smirl

This second predetermined speed preferably corresponds essentially to the established national speed limit.
