  • Patent number: 6626840
Abstract: A method and system are provided for detecting various vascular conditions using an occlusive arm cuff plethysmograph. The system includes data acquisition hardware, including the occlusive arm cuff plethysmograph, for obtaining arterial and endothelial function data from a patient, processing means utilizing application or analysis software for analyzing the arterial and endothelial function data, and a database of computer models, such as brachial artery pressure versus lumen area curves (P-A curves) and brachial artery pressure versus compliance curves (P-C curves), developed by analyzing data for a plurality of subjects where their vascular conditions were known. The processing means diagnoses and predicts various vascular conditions pertaining to the patient by comparing or correlating the analyzed arterial and endothelial function data with the computer models stored within the database and presents the findings on a display.

  • Patent number: 6629164
Abstract: A method is described for controlling commands and data in a serial data stream received by a serial controller in a serial interface. A character count register is programed with a maximum number of characters that a serial controller will send to a direct memory access controller (DMAC) before sending an end of frame (EOF) indication. Characters in an incoming data stream are counted using the character count register. An EOF signal is passed to the DMAC after the maximum number of characters programmed in the character count register have been written to a direct memory access (DMA) buffer. The character count register is reset any time the serial controller passes an EOF to the DMAC. In one embodiment, a character is programmed into a match register. Data in an incoming data stream is compared with the character in the match register. When a character in the incoming data stream matches the character programmed in the match register, a match bit is set corresponding to the match register.

  • Patent number: 6627913
Abstract: A memory for an integrated circuit and method of fabricating same are provided, comprising providing an array of magnetic memory devices, preferably TMR junctions, that are configured as individual studs and protrude from a substrate. A layer of insulating spacer material is deposited over the array of magnetic memory devices, and a spacer etch is performed to remove the spacer material preferentially from the top surfaces of the magnetic memory devices and from substrate surface areas between the magnetic memory devices. Preferably, the insulating spacer material is low k and/or a barrier to outdiffusion of species from the TMR junctions. Examples include silicon carbide (BLOk™), low temperature silicon nitride or diamond-like carbon. • Publication number: 20030181173
Abstract: Systems and methods for optimizing the efficiency of each of a plurality of power amplifiers that amplify a corresponding one of a plurality of radio frequency signals for transmission by a corresponding one of a plurality of antennas. Using transmit beamforming, the power of each amplified signal output by the power amplifiers may not be the same for all the power amplifiers, and may vary with changes in the communication channel between the transmitting device and receiving device. Each of the plurality of power amplifiers is controlled to operate with one or more operating parameters that optimize the efficiency for an output power level of corresponding ones of the radio frequency signals. By adjusting one or more operating parameters of each power amplifier according to changing requirements (e.g., the destination device and channel conditions), the efficiency of each power amplifier can be optimized.

  • Publication number: 20030182009
Abstract: An inspection and verification system includes an inspection fixture for inspecting a finished part prior to its placement in a shipping container. The inspection fixture signals a processor that the finished part has “passed” or “failed”. A finished part that passes is placed in the shipping container, which is locked in a loading position on the weighing platform of an electronic scale. If the weight of the finished part does not match a standard finished part weight, the part is rejected, the shipping container is removed and quarantined, and a new shipping container is locked in the loading position. When the weight of the finished part matches the standard weight, the part is accepted and it remains in the shipping container. When the processor receives a number of “accept” signals equal to a standard shipping container quantity, it releases the shipping container.

  • Publication number: 20030181944
Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a pair of elongated members joined together by a box hinge. The box hinge is formed of a slot in the first member having substantially flat, generally parallel sides and a hinge portion in the second member. The hinge portion of the second member conforms to the generally flat surfaces of the slot and is generally the same width as that of the second member on either side of the box hinge. The width of the first elongated member is larger than the width of the second elongated member at either end of the box hinge portion. The transitional slope of the side surfaces of the second elongated member is nearly flat between the box hinge portion, the handle end portion, and the working tip portion. The unique construction of the box hinge creates a snag-free surface that allows for the use of the instrument for tasks such as suturing without the suturing thread snagging on the instrument.
