  • Publication number: 20180010170
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with PCR-based detection methods and kits for the identification, differentiation, and quantification of different bacterial strains (e.g., Gram-negative bacterial strains), and also association of two or more PCR-positive genes to a single genome. The methods generally comprise carrying out PCR reactions using at least a first PCR primer set and/or probe for at least one target nucleic acid; and a second PCR primer set and/or probe for at least a second target nucleic acid. Positive PCR reaction products are then detected to determine test samples containing positive PCR reaction products for both the first and second target nucleic acids. This information can be used to calculate the gene association rate to determine whether the sample contains, for example, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli of the O-type serogroup.

  • Patent number: 9600582
Abstract: When objects are shared by one user with another user, objectionable content, if identified as such, can be blocked from being shared, while the remainder of the shared objects can be accessed by the other user. Functions that allow sharing of content are implemented so as prevent sharing of objectionable content with another user, while allowing other content to be shared. If a group of files or objects is shared, then the presence of objectionable content in one object in the group results in that objectionable content not being shared, but the remaining files or objects are still shared. A graphical user interface for accessing the storage system, whether by providers or recipients of shared content, can selectively render information about objects with objectionable content.

  • Patent number: 9491559
Abstract: A method of acoustically fitting a hearing aid comprises providing a plurality of audible tones, each having a predetermined frequency through stereo headphones. The tones are provided at specific sound pressure in each ear. The patient changes the relative sound pressure in each ear until a perceived direction of source of the tone is in front of the patient. The amplification or attenuation requirements of a hearing aid are modified based on the difference in the sound pressures required for the left and right ears of the patient for perceived directional sameness for each frequency band-pass channel.

  • Patent number: 9250386
Abstract: Disclosed is an optical fiber having a core with an alkali metal oxide dopant in an peak amount greater than about 0.002 wt. % and less than about 0.1 wt. %. The alkali metal oxide concentration varies with a radius of the optical fiber. By appropriately selecting the concentration of alkali metal oxide dopant in the core and the cladding, a low loss optical fiber may be obtained. Also disclosed are several methods of making the optical fiber including the steps of forming an alkali metal oxide-doped rod, and adding additional glass to form a draw perform. Preferably, the draw preform has a final outer dimension (d2), wherein an outer dimension (d1) of the rod is less than or equal to 0.06 times the final outer dimension (d2). In a preferred embodiment, the alkali metal oxide-doped rod is inserted into the centerline hole of a preform to form an assembly.

  • Publication number: 20150191293
Abstract: An insulated apparatus for a beverage can includes an insulated member, a flexible attachment, and a sealable cap. The insulated member that covers the base end and the lateral wall of a beverage can is connected with the sealable cap by the flexible attachment, where the sealable cap is removably attached around the top end of the beverage can. Collectively, the insulated member and the sealable cap retain the cold temperature condition of the beverage can. A cap opening of the sealable cap allows the beverage within the beverage can to flow through so that the users can consume the beverage without removing the sealable cap. The users can either close or open the cap opening through a slidable tab to protect the beverage within the beverage can from outside element.
