  • Publication number: 20130300101
Abstract: An anti-counterfeit feature for a multi-layer document or plastic laminated card is provided according to some embodiments. The laminated card can include an embedded layer including a radio frequency radiation absorbing or deflecting material. The card can be authenticated by detecting an absence or a modification of a radio frequency signal due to the card interfering with a radiation source. The laminated card can also include a pattern of perforations passing partially or fully through one or more layers of the card so as to produce an effect similar to a watermark in the assembled laminated card by giving the card a modified transparency in a pattern associated with the pattern of perforations. The card can be authenticated by observing a pattern of light through the perforations.

  • Publication number: 20100001862
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method of authenticating an item by affixing an RFID chip to the item. In one embodiment, an authentication method comprises providing an RFID chip having a unique ID readable by a device; applying the chip to an item via an adhesive; associating the ID of the chip with the item at a first point in time; and at a second point in time later than the first point in time, authenticating the item by reading the ID of the chip applied to the item and comparing with the ID associated with the item at the first point in time. The RFID chip cannot be easily removed and preferably cannot be removed without visible evidence of tampering, more preferably without destroying the RFID chip so that the ID of the RFID chip cannot be read.

  • Publication number: 20080252463
Abstract: A universal low cost radio frequency identification (RFID) tag for use with data storage discs includes an RFID chip, e.g., 2.45 GHz mu-RFID chip, coupled to a linear dipole antenna. The antenna length is reduced in length from the expected length for an optimally tuned antenna corresponding to the operating radio frequency of the RFID chip in a free space environment. The antenna is placed in the tag such as to substantially overlap disc hub area and not extend into data area. The combination of the shortened linear dipole antenna and metallization on the disc to which the tag is applied effectively form a complex antenna operational in the RFID chip's frequency range. The RFID tag works on CDs and DVDs with and without substantially metallized hub areas. The RFID tag is less 0.3 mm thick and may include: ring shape, adhesive material, spacing material achieving uniform thickness, a counterbalance provision.
